Job Summary:
This position exists to support the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities by providing delegated clinical and administrative support to licensed healthcare providers within a patient-centered Medical Home model. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a key role on the care team by supporting coordinated, team-based, whole-person care that is accessible, continuous, culturally responsive, and focused on quality, safety, and positive health outcomes. The CMA contributes to a patient-centered healthcare system by promoting continuity of care, supporting care coordination, and reinforcing patient engagement across the care continuum.
The following functions are fundamental to the position and are required of all incumbents, with or without reasonable accommodation. These functions define the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties.
- Performs delegated clinical and administrative duties as part of a patient‑centered Medical Home, supporting coordinated, whole‑person care.
- Performs delegated clinical tasks within organizational policy and competency validation, scope and competency under licensed supervision, including injections, immunizations, venipuncture, waived labs, EKGs, and treatments.
- Perform patient intake activities including obtaining vital signs, medical histories, chief complaints, medication reconciliation, and documenting information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed by a licensed provider and according to established clinical protocols and scope of practice guidelines.
- Prepares patients and exam rooms, ensuring infection prevention, equipment readiness, and supply availability.
- Assists licensed providers during examinations and procedures while maintaining patient safety, dignity, and privacy.
- Observe, recognize, and promptly report changes in patient condition, symptoms, abnormal findings, or urgent concerns to the appropriate licensed healthcare professional.
- Provides patient education and follow‑up instructions as directed, supporting self‑management and health literacy.
- Supports care coordination by assisting with labs, imaging, referrals, follow‑ups, and transitions of care per established workflows.
- Monitors clinic flow, communicates delays, and assists with scheduling to support access and continuity of care.
- Maintains accurate documentation and complies with HIPAA, CLIA, OSHA, AAAHC, and organizational policies.
- Maintains clinic organization, equipment, and inventories; initiates supply reorders as needed.
- Collaborates effectively with providers and care team members and participates in required meetings, training, and quality improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program from an accredited or state‑recognized institution or an equivalent combination of education and relevant healthcare experience that supports certification eligibility.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential required and maintained in good standing.
- The medical assistant is certified with one of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) o American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduation from a accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Formal coursework or training in clinical assisting, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, infection prevention, and medical documentation.
This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands and work environment may include:
- Ability to perform a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and positioning patients throughout the workday. (Approximately ¾ of time activity state and ¼ sedentary)
- Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry clinical supplies, equipment, and materials required for patient care and clinic operations.
- Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to perform clinical procedures, specimen collection, equipment operation, and accurate data entry.
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for clinical assessment, equipment monitoring, and communication with patients and care team members.
- Ability to safely assist with patient mobility and transfers as necessary within the clinical setting.
- Ability to use computers and standard office and clinical equipment for extended periods.
- Work is performed in exam rooms, treatment areas, and shared office or clinical workspace environments with other care team members.
- Frequent interaction with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary staff in a fast‑paced healthcare setting.
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and biohazardous materials consistent with clinical operations.
- Required compliance with infection prevention and control standards, including routine and situation‑specific use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, gowns, eye protection, or respirators as indicated.
- Exposure to cleaning agents, disinfectants, and medical equipment typical of a healthcare environment.
- Work environment may involve variable noise levels, interruptions, and changing clinical demands throughout the shift.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and overnight or extended travel as necessary.
