Job Summary: Step Down Unit (PCU/Oncology/MedSurg) RN Omaha, NE
A Registered Nurse (RN) is needed for a Step Down Unit serving adult patients across PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg. The role involves caring for patients with oncology-focused diagnoses while providing PCU-level support, including the use of specialized monitoring and equipment. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour nights, minimum 36 hours per week; weekend requirement: every other weekend (self-schedule available).
• Required Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license (required at submission)
  • Certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (American Heart Association (AHA)); Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association (AHA)); ONS/ONCC (as listed)
  • Minimum experience: 2 years (step down/PCU experience requested as applicable)
  • Location requirement: candidates must be within 50 miles
  • Drivers license required at submission to determine eligibility within 50 miles
• Preferred Qualifications: Oncology certified experience is preferred (not required).
• Responsibilities:
  • Provide step down level care for adult patients with oncology and trauma patient diagnoses
  • Care for patients requiring titration or administration of medications/therapies such as chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix
  • Support patients who may require hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, Aline, Swan, EV-1000) and ICP management (trainable in real time)
  • Manage ventilator and related specialty equipment needs (trainable)
  • Use EPIC for charting
  • Float may be required within the same level of care to MedSurg and PCU units
• Additional Information:
  • Unit includes mixed care and typically runs ratios of 1 RN to 4 PCU patients (days) and 1 RN to 56 patients (nights)
  • Unit orientation consists of 2 days
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in departments providing patient care; refusal to remove nails may result in contract termination
  • Required skills/testing during orientation includes a pass/fail exam on Friday and an open-book exam on learned skills; a 90% score is required to pass
