Controller

Our client, a dynamic produce distribution company with a tightly integrated finance function and a strong operational backbone, is seeking a Controller (newly created) to join their team. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in a fast-moving environment, wants real ownership over the financial function, and enjoys being a trusted voice at the leadership table. What you’ll own: Day‑to‑day oversight of AP, AR, and the General Ledger, plus broader responsibility across finance, banking, insurance, HR, and outsourced IT. You’ll publish GAAP‑compliant monthly financial statements, drive collections and credit management, oversee sales and use tax compliance, and support annual tax preparation with the company’s external CPAs. Expect to build and refine financial policies, internal controls, and reporting systems, and deliver clear analysis and variance commentary to ownership and lenders. Who you are: A sharp, self‑directed accounting leader with at least six years of senior‑level experience in an environment subject to external CPA review or audit. You have deep familiarity with wholesale produce or consumer food/beverage operations—including purchasing, inventory, cost accounting, and warehousing—and you’ve managed and developed accounting staff directly. A BS in Accounting or Business Administration with an accounting emphasis is required; CPA is strongly preferred. Technical skills that set you up for success: Intermediate to advanced Excel, proficiency with AI tools, and strong ERP experience. Familiarity with Famous software—particularly GL, financial reporting, and purchasing‑to‑payment workflows—is a significant plus. Experience with credit card processors and online payment posting is also desirable.
