Executive Chair, Transportation & Safety Studies

As the administrative and academic leader of the department, theChairperson Transportation & Safety Studies is accountable forthe delivery of academic programs in accordance with departmental,divisional, and College strategic plans; the hiring, evaluation andprofessional development of department personnel to include facultyand staff; and oversight of budgeting and resource management. As amember of College administration, the Chair coordinatesdepartmental activity with the activities of other units within thecollege and in collaboration with other members of administration,faculty, and staff. The Chairperson sets forth departmental goalsand objectives, serves as the representative of the department tointernal and external audiences, monitors and manages on goingevaluation of department programs, and ensures departments safetyprotocols. Essential Job Functions Strategic Leadership Develops and implements a three-year strategic plan for thedepartment and its individual programs based on the College’soverall strategic priorities. Establishes and implements goals and their outcome measuresand communicates them to the team. Participates in college-wide conversations focused on thecontinual quality improvement of the staff and studentexperiences. Represents the College as a representative for thedepartment, team, and students. Establishes key relationships, bothinternal and external, to communicate strategies and leveragepartnerships to further enhance the development of innovative andimpactful practice. Participates in on-going community outreach and recruitingevents to promote post-secondary education and career opportunitiesto potential K-12 and non-traditional students. Department Leadership Provides daily oversight and leadership of department staffincluding recruiting and hiring, assigning, and delegating tasks,providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating jobexpectations, training employees, and developing professionalgrowth opportunities. Recommends pay increases, promotions, and other personnelactions. Develops and manages a detailed budget for all fiscalmatters related to the department, including both annual operatingand capital budgets. Provides written reports and presentations capturing theprogress and work of the department, including reports that will beused for the College and other public audiences asdirected. Partners with the Foundation to identify and secure externalfunding of program needs and student support. Operational Leadership Collects, evaluates and reports data on department servicesin partnership with Institutional Effectiveness Office, programadvisory committees, and other audiences as directed. Tracks and utilizes data to make suggestions and deliverinsight into the development/maintenance of the department’sstrategic plan. Administers ongoing systematic evaluation of services andprograms needed. Keeps accurate records, complete and maintain requireddocumentation, including recruitment statistics, visit requests andreports, and other admissions and enrollment reports. Culture of Respect Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity. Other duties as required. *Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance isrequired. OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meetstight timelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt tochanging needs of the College and business partners. Ensures College name and image is perceived positively byexternal as well as internal audience/stakeholders. Attends all required departments meetings andtrainings. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Master’s degree in Transportation, Environmental &Health Safety, Business Management, or related fieldrequired. Five (5) years of relevant industry experiencerequired. * An appropriate combination of education, training,coursework and experience may qualify a candidate. Working Conditions Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderatenoise typical to business offices. *CSCC has the right to revise this position description atany time.
