Area Supervisor – Food and Nutrition Services (Job ID: 2569) Position Type: Auxiliary – Food Service Date Posted: 12/16/2025 Location: Food Service Shift Type: Full-Time Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Food Service Manager Employment Begins: As soon as possible Primary Purpose Directly supervises 8-12 Food & Nutrition Services managers and indirectly supervises up to 100 Food & Nutrition Services specialists, providing leadership on policies and procedures related to staffing, labor relations, compliance, training, employee evaluation, and public relations at the school level. Serve as a liaison between the Food & Nutrition Services department and campus administrators. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited sanitation course and maintenance of certification. Exhibits effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written. Training and presentation skills. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, PC operation, electronic mail, and basic math. Exceptional organizational skills. Knowledge of HACCP. Knowledge of state requirements for school breakfast and lunch programs. Experience Two years of experience in institutional food service operations; preferred experience in supervision of multi‑unit operations. Experience in school food service management, quality assurance, menu planning, and/or catering preferred. Experience in project planning and collaborating with a team to implement procedures and projects. Major Responsibilities and Duties Supervise assigned sites in personnel, operations, facilities, customer service, and food quality. Monitor food purchases, labor costs, and supplies within annual budget or guidelines. Monitor and review compliance of HACCP program to ensure food safety practices are followed. Enforce compliance of best practices, laws, regulations, policies, and emerging technologies related to school food service operations. Assume Food & Nutrition Services Manager responsibilities when a position is vacant or Manager‑In‑Training is unavailable. Assess school‑based departmental needs and make recommendations to department administration to ensure quality service to students and staff. Observe daily operations and provide training as needed. Develop and facilitate training for site‑based team members. Ensure compliance with all district, local, state, and federal policies and procedures. Liaison between site team members and office team members. Ensure exceptional food presentation and that the kitchen is clean, neat, and orderly; ensure exceptional customer service. Ensure temperature logs are completed correctly and that all food is at the appropriate temperature. Complete quality assurance documents and review production records monthly. Review timesheets for absences or discrepancies and correct as needed. Assist in City of Mesquite health inspection improvement plans. Implement MISD safety guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Food & Nutrition Services managers and specialists at assigned sites. Exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Frequent travel to MISD sites; limited travel within Texas and the United States may be required. Reliable transportation required.
