Software Engineer, Mobile

About Mantle

We’re building an AI agent to help families support their aging parents (origin story here).

Over 40M “sandwich generation” Americans currently manage their parent’s affairs. Keeping mom/dad safe and supported is like a second job: it’s time-consuming, stressful and on top of their already busy lives. We believe that managing our parents’ affairs should feel under control, easier and lower stress.

Co-founded by serial entrepreneur partners including Ted Zagat, who sold his previous businesses to Slack (announcement here) and Google (Zagat restaurant guides).

The Role

This position is core to how families experience Mantle. Caring for an aging parent happens in the gaps of a busy day: in the car, between meetings, in a waiting room. As a Software Engineer on our mobile team, you’ll build the Mantle app that families keep in their pocket, making it feel calm, fast and under control.

You’ll own our mobile experience end-to-end, from architecture to App Store, work directly with founders and design on product direction, and bring our AI agent to life on the phone. This means sweating the details: notifications that inform without overwhelming, flows that work for every member of the family, and an app that’s dependable when it matters.

What You’ll Build

• Consumer mobile application: onboarding, messaging with our AI agent, family dashboards, and the core workflows families use every day

• AI agent experiences on mobile that make powerful capabilities feel intuitive and trustworthy

• Notification and messaging systems that keep families informed at the right moments

• Mobile architecture, release process and quality standards that let us ship fast without breaking trust

• Secure handling of sensitive personal and financial information on device

• Instrumentation and monitoring to understand how families use the app and where it can improve

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience

• 2-10 years building production mobile applications

• Strong proficiency in React Native, or native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin)

• Track record of shipping and maintaining consumer apps in the App Store and Google Play

• Comfort working across the stack with React, Node.js and APIs on AWS

Ideal Background

• Early-stage startup experience (especially as a first-10 engineer or first mobile engineer)

• Experience building consumer mobile apps where UX, performance and reliability matter

• Experience building conversational or AI-powered mobile experiences

• Understanding of product development and user-centric design, including accessibility

• Nice to have, but not required: experience with FinTech

Who Thrives Here

• Builders: You love creating things from scratch and taking full ownership

• Craft-obsessed: You notice the details that make an app feel great

• Product-minded: You think about user impact, not just technical elegance

• AI-forward: You embrace modern AI development tools (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) to move faster and build better

• Pragmatic: You balance perfection with speed and know when to ship

• Autonomous: You thrive with minimal direction and maximum responsibility

• Mission-driven: You care about building something meaningful

What You’ll Get

• Meaningful work: Build a consumer product that will improve the lives of millions of families, with real technical ownership, fast pace, and huge financial potential

• Small team impact: Work directly with founders and see immediate impact from your work

• Early team equity: Meaningful ownership in a company targeting a massive market

• Shape the future: You will own our mobile experience; your decisions will shape how families experience Mantle every day

• Learning & growth: Exposure to every aspect of building a startup from the ground up

• Remote Fridays: Work from home every Friday. Monday through Thursday, we build together in person in San Francisco
