Fabricator

Contractor General

Position Summary The Fabricator I is an entry‑level position in Contractor General's rebar fabrication shop. This person learns to read cut lists and bend schedules, operates rebar cutting and bending equipment under supervision, and supports the production of accurate, on‑time fabricated rebar orders for contractor customers. No prior fabrication experience is required — we'll train the right person. What we're looking for is someone who shows up ready to work, pays attention to detail, takes safety seriously, and wants to build a skill. Key Responsibilities Production & Fabrication Operate rebar cutting and bending equipment under the direction of senior fabricators or the shop supervisor Read and follow cut lists and bend schedules to produce rebar to specified dimensions and shapes Verify finished pieces against order specifications for accuracy before staging for delivery Bundle, tag, and stage completed fabrication orders for pickup or delivery Maintain production pace to support on‑time order completion Material Handling Receive, offload, and organize raw rebar stock in the yard and shop Move materials using overhead crane, forklift, or material handling equipment (training provided) Assist with inventory counts and stock organization as directed Quality & Safety Inspect finished pieces for dimensional accuracy and proper bends per customer specifications Follow all shop safety protocols — PPE, lockout/tagout, housekeeping, and equipment handling Report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or quality issues to the supervisor immediately Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift Team & Shop Support Support senior fabricators and the shop supervisor with production tasks as assigned Participate in daily shop briefings, safety talks, and training sessions Assist with equipment maintenance tasks such as blade changes and lubrication as trained Contribute to a culture of quality, reliability, and continuous improvement in the shop Qualifications Required Ability to read a tape measure accurately and follow written/verbal instructions Mechanical aptitude — comfortable operating industrial equipment with proper training Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in production work Physical ability to lift 75+ lbs regularly and stand for extended periods Reliable attendance and punctuality; able to work a consistent shift schedule Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a hands‑on shop environment Preferred Any prior experience in fabrication, manufacturing, welding, or a construction trade Familiarity with rebar, structural steel, or concrete construction Forklift or overhead crane experience High school diploma or GED OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain Physical Requirements & Work Environment This is a physically demanding role in an industrial shop environment. Fabricators regularly lift and carry materials up to 75+ lbs, stand and move throughout a full shift, and operate heavy cutting and bending equipment. The shop environment includes noise, metal dust, and varying temperatures. Steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection are required at all times.
