CNC Conversational Mill Operator I- 2nd or 3rd shift

Job Title: CNC Conversational Mill Operator I Shift: 2nd or 3rd shift (Shift 3, United States of America) Hourly, non‑exempt position reporting to the Production Supervisor. A successful CNC Conversational Mill Operator I can safely and efficiently manufacture parts that meet all quality requirements, ensuring high precision and timely production. Responsibilities Work to close tolerances (e.g., .0002”). Machine metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Inspect parts during production using precision measuring instruments. Monitor and maintain machine fluid levels. Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine machining steps, dimensional specifications, set‐up, and operating requirements. Edit pre‑written programs under supervision when necessary. Modify programs for process improvements and troubleshooting. Create programs, setups, and processes for new parts. Use ProtoTRAK conversational language. Mount work pieces in chuck, faceplate, or fixtures. Select and install preset tooling in tool posts, turrets, cutters, and automatic tool change magazines as described on the machine control. Observe numerical control displays and compare with process data to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and cutting speeds. Turn dials and switches to override program and correct machine performance. Inspect first‑run pieces and spot‑check subsequent pieces for conformance to specifications. Study job packets and organize materials for the next order during cycles to reduce setup time. Pre‑set tools before positioning them in the mill. Set up and operate another machine tool during machining cycles when possible. Utilize all types of inspection instruments to check work per print without supervision. Apply knowledge of cutting tools and determine appropriate machine speeds and feeds. Perform basic equipment maintenance. Cross‑train on other plant machinery as required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required with related experience. At least 1 year of CNC mill experience. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to interpret and adhere to blueprints. Understanding of routing steps and quality inspection. Sound mechanical aptitude and hands‑on skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience using a steady rest. Ability to perform machine set‑up (install proper chuck jaws and tooling). Basic understanding of equipment and processes in this area of responsibility. Ability to read precision measuring equipment. Basic programming knowledge or experience, set‑up capabilities, tooling knowledge, and understanding of feeds, speeds, and gearing technology. Basic hand tools owned. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods standing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
