Healthcare Security Manager — Lead & Enhance Safety

Assists to plan, develop, administer, and manage the day-to-day operations of the Hospital Security Department, and implement the Security Management Plan. Oversees investigations relative to security issues. Duties and Responsibilities Participates in the development of both long and short range goals for the department consistent with the goals and objectives of the hospital. Maintains implementation of security management plans, and department policies and procedures. Provides supervision over subordinate supervisors, lead officers, and officers. Responsible for implementation of, and employee compliance with, hospital and department policies and procedures. Integrates the service, administrative, and educational aspects of the department. Oversees and participates in employee relations matters, which include staff selection, management, development, and performance review. Participates in determining and maintaining adequate numbers of qualified employees to provide safe, effective, and efficient services in accordance with established standards. Coordinates security services with other departments to maintain effective operations. Determines appropriate actions during emergency situations, including providing on-site supervision, as appropriate. Carries out safety and infection control procedures to ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety. Oversees delivery of daily reports to upper management for review. Assists in the production of employee identification badges. Functions as a Security Supervisor, as needed. Functions as a Lead Security Officer, as needed. Functions as a Security Officer, as needed. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Knowledge of principles and practices of security management, including personnel practices, security preventative practices, investigatory practices, and related legal responsibilities. Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, including assigning, evaluating and modifying work. Knowledge of content and formatting of reports PC computer knowledge Skills Interpersonal communication skills, verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of people including the proper handling of emotional situations and needs. Skill in effectively using time and resources to accomplish department objectives. Skill in supervising others and maintaining effective working relationships with those encounters during the course of one's work. Skill in analyzing and independently solving a variety of difficult situations and problems. Maintains writing skills required for compiling detailed reports. Abilities Must be able to speak and communicate effectively. Maintains a high degree of credibility, integrity, confidentiality, and trust. Five years prior security supervisory experience in healthcare or a related field Required Licensure and/or Certifications Possession of a valid California driver's license Valid First Aid and /or CPR card maintained at all times Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) designation from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 30 days of hire/promotion Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) designation from IAHSS within 60 days of hire/promotion Certified Healthcare Safety Security Supervisor (CHSSS) designation from IAHSS within 90 days of hire/promotion Nonviolent Crisis Intervention course from HSS within 90 days of hire/promotion and recertification annually Health Stream coursework within 60 days of hire/promotion on: Workplace Violence AVMC Conduct/Compliance Expectations Ability to adhere with AVMC Attendance and Punctuality Policy. Ability to adhere with AVMC Leaves of Absence Policy. Ability to adhere with AVMC Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy. Ability to adhere to the department dress code. Ability to organize work and establish priorities. Ability to expand on own initiative in performance of duties. Skill and ability to follow the telephone etiquette/standards. Ability to function effectively under pressure and meet time parameters. Ability to communicate effectively while maintaining good working relationships with co‑workers, managers and other hospital staff. Ability to adhere to the normal standards of courtesy and conduct as defined under the rules of hospitality at AVMC. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of patient, hospital and department information. Ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations. Safely and effectively uses all equipment necessary to carry out duties. Ability to interpret and function under hospital and department policies and procedures. Conforms with required and appropriate accreditation and regulatory requirements. Conforms with and supports hospital quality assurance and improvement guidelines. Ability to participate effectively in department and hospital staff education. Display a willingness to work as a team player. Ability to give and support the highest level of patient/customer satisfaction at all times. Supports and adheres to the values and mission statement established by the AVMC Board of Directors. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Compliance & Integrity Program and its established policies. Ability to follow the Code of Conduct. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work performed in a combination of the interior of a hospital building and outdoors under potentially stressful and emotional conditions. Stand or walk or sit or a combination thereof for 8 hours. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to move vigorously, as needed. Able to grip with both hands. Able to bend and reach without limitations.
