ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Secondary Program Associate works collaboratively with Banyan’s Secondary Educators to support 6th–12th grade after-school and summer programming. This role assists with classroom management, leads enrichment activities, and builds positive, supportive relationships with youth.
ROLE RESPONSIBILIES
Program Planning, Instruction and Direct Service (70%)
- Collaborate with the Middle School Educator to support and plan weekly activities for Banyan’s 6-8 th grade after school program and summer programs.
- Collaborate with the Secondary and College Access Educator to support and plan for Banyan’s 9 th to 12 th grade afterschool tutoring and summer classes.
- Lead and coordinate group games, sports, hands-on activities, and educational enrichment activities in a variety of settings.
- Plan and lead monthly 8 th grade leaders meetings.
- Build trust-based relationships with youth and help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies.
- Provide individual and group homework support for diverse learners; with a specific focus in math and science.
- Assist staff with the preparation and distribution of healthy snacks and clean up after programs.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss and develop plans to address issues impacting youth and families as needed.
- Participate in other programs and events as needed.
Parent Communication and Support (20%)
- Support communicate on a regular basis with parents – programming dates, youth support, and meeting.
- Help parents access resources as needed
Reporting (10%)
- Participate in required staff meetings and trainings.
- Record family information and program data in Client Track Database.
- Track expenses according to established budgets.
- Maintain accurate and current records.
- Complete special projects or duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team while taking responsibility for a group of 20–30 secondary youth participants.
- Previous experience working with youth in grades 6 th to 12 th preferred
- Able to lift and carry 20Ibs navigate stairs, and actively participate in youth activities including running and swimming
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with diverse groups of people
- Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage responsibilities independently and within a dynamic team environment
- Ability to build meaningful, trust-based relationships with a diverse group of youth, families, volunteers, and community members
- Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, inclusion, and engagement with diverse communities
- Must be 21 years of age or older and possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license with a good driving record
COMPENSATION
This is an exempt, year-round, full-time (40 hours/week) salaried position with full benefits. This role primarily requires afternoon and evening hours to support after-school programming, along with occasional Saturday and community event responsibilities. Salary range begins at $49,000 per year DOQ.
