Safety Specialist

Position Overview Curries (an ASSA ABLOY company) is expanding its Safety Team and is looking for a Safety Specialist to work the 2nd shift (1pm–9pm) at our manufacturing facility in Mason City, Iowa. The role focuses on driving workplace health, safety, and compliance initiatives across all shifts. Responsibilities Champion a culture of safety by implementing policies, conducting inspections, leading training, and serving as a first responder. Ensure compliance with OSHA and Company standards for all employees. Assure implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules as well as Door Group and ASSA ABLOY requirements. Maintain required documentation (daily inspection sheets, incident reports, press checks, etc.) in an orderly and easily retrievable manner. Track safety training—including monthly topics, forklift and LOTO certifications—and manage safety walkthroughs and risk assessments. Assist with implementation and follow‑up of corrective measures and prepare incident data reports and presentations. Participate in incident and near‑miss root‑cause analysis and ensure all corrective actions are entered into AIC/Thrive and tracked to 100% completion. Track and maintain the Occupational Safety Assessment process and manage Safety Week activities. Manage prescription safety glasses and safety shoe/boot program, including hearing and respirator testing follow‑up. Analyze safety data to identify trends and communicate findings as directed. Plan and implement training programs for supervisors and employees, especially off‑shift. Organize facilities, procedure, and process inspections to detect hazards and assure program effectiveness. Coordinate leadership participation in facility walkthroughs. Monitor industrial hygiene (noise, air quality) and arrange testing and communication of results. Lead the first‑responder team in collaboration with Curries Clinic personnel. Conduct research on compliance regulations and maintain accessible safety policies and procedures. Perform special assignments and projects as assigned and collaborate to provide a safe workplace for all employees. Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or Silver CRC required. Emergency Medical Technician certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus. Comfortable presenting to groups using audiovisual tools and technology. Proficiency in computer applications and standard office procedures. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Willingness to pursue ongoing education in safety and health standards (e.g., OSHA 30‑hour General Industry, Ergonomics). Ability to maintain personnel and injury records confidentially. Flexibility to work varied hours, including off‑shifts. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational abilities with comfort balancing multiple priorities or projects.
