Title: Student Support Specialist, Workforce Solutions Agency: Tidewater Community College Location: Portsmouth - 740 FLSA: Exempt Hiring Range: $50,000 - $62,000, commensurate with experience Full Time or Part Time: Full Time Overview Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads for 50 years, growing into a regional educational and economic force. The college offers workforce solutions that provide high quality training to meet employer needs. The Student Support Specialist plays a critical role in supporting students throughout their Workforce (WFS) program journey, ensuring successful enrollment, persistence, completion, and transition into employment. Responsibilities The Student Support Specialist engages prospective students from first contact, aids program selection, application, and financial aid processes, and offers personalized career coaching. They provide ongoing support for academic and non-academic challenges, promote WFS programs through community engagement and marketing, build relationships with local employers, and expand the college’s reach to increase enrollment and ensure students connect to real-world opportunities. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of recruitment, enrollment, and advising for workforce programs. Knowledge of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others reach their career goals. Demonstrated skill in academic and career counseling. Strong interpersonal skills to engage, support, and motivate students. Excellent customer service skills, including effective follow-up and follow-through. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills. Proficiency in technology, including ZOOM, CANVAS, Navigate, Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs. Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of developing individual action plans. Understanding of the specific needs of underserved populations for educational success. Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship information. Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically, and age-diverse individuals. Additional Considerations Work experience in a community college setting, counseling, or academic coaching. Knowledge of PeopleSoft and other educational technologies. Knowledge of VCCS academic and workforce programs. This is a restricted funded position. #J-18808-Ljbffr
