SUMMARY

Mechanics work in the Operations Division of the Public Works Department and are responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing City-owned vehicles and equipment including automobiles, pickups, heavy-duty trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, excavators, tractors, lawn mowers, etc. This position may be filled as an Equipment Mechanic I or Equipment Mechanic II, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The mechanic classification offers a career progression path, allowing employees hired at the Mechanic I level to advance to Mechanic II as they gain experience, demonstrate proficiency, and obtain applicable certifications. Mechanic I: $27.57 - 33.51 per hour

Mechanic II: $30.40 - 36.95 per hour

The regular schedule for this position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:30PM. Subject to 24-hour call out, 7 days a week in emergencies.

• High School Education or equivalent.
• Mechanic I requires two (2) years, and Mechanic II requires five (5) years, of mechanical and equipment repair experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
• Must reside within a 30-minute driving distance of the City limits within 12 months of hire.
• Possession of valid Driver's License with safe driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check including checks of Criminal, Social Security Trace, Sex Offender Registry and Motor Vehicle records and pre-employment drug screen.

The City will provide training opportunities, resources, and support to assist employees in obtaining the required certifications within the specified timeframes.

• Class A Oregon CDL with Air Brake endorsement

• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE): A1, A4, A5, T4, T5
• Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT): F2, L1

• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE): A6, A8, T2, T6, L1
• Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT): F3, F4

Mechanics are responsible for providing their basic tools. The City provides mechanics with a $1,000 annual tool allowance for purchasing and replacing job-related tools. Specialty tools are provided by the City.

This position is represented by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
