Sr. Advisor or Director, Advanced Nuclear

Job Overview NYSERDA is seeking a Director, Advanced Nuclear and a Sr. Advisor, Advanced Nuclear to develop and lead a new Advanced Nuclear team. These positions report to the Senior Vice President of Large‑Scale Resources (LSR). The roles entail strategy development, program design, implementation, status reporting, stakeholder collaboration, and team management. Primary Responsibilities Strategy Finalize and lead the completion of New York’s Advanced Nuclear Master Plan and, post‑conclusion, spearhead NYSERDA’s execution of that plan and further policy framework development. Contribute to New York’s emerging policies for zero‑emissions technologies, including the PSC Zero by 2040 proceeding. Infuse deep technical and market knowledge into state deliberations to shape programs in a market‑sensitive manner. Program Direct and guide the Advanced Nuclear team to develop, implement, and execute deployment initiatives aligned with the strategy. Collaborate with NYSERDA colleagues and teams in a matrixed structure on supply chain, workforce, innovation, and regulatory matters. Manage program budgets per applicable rules and coordinate with the CFO office. Negotiate contracts and manage contractors. Perform other programmatic responsibilities as needed. Execution Drive projects and policies forward by gathering information, communicating effectively, developing and monitoring plans, and overseeing team commitments. Represent NYSERDA in collaborations with state agencies and public/private entities and at technical conferences, public meetings, and other forums. Maintain and leverage a network of stakeholders, market participants, peer program administrators, policy experts, and other insight sources. Minimum Qualifications Director (Salary range: $156,757‑$197,170) A Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Science/Engineering/Technology or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience in the nuclear and energy industry, including 5 years of supervisory experience. Sr. Advisor (Salary range: $141,581‑$178,874) A Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Science/Engineering/Technology or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience in the nuclear and energy industry. Specific Areas Track record of leadership roles, including experience as a team leader and leading high‑profile nuclear energy projects in the private sector, preferably in advanced nuclear in North America. Deep subject‑matter expertise on advanced nuclear technologies. Deep understanding of finance and economics, including project and infrastructure finance and related cost analysis tools. Experience in developing strategy and policy in the energy space, privately or publicly. Preferred: Leadership and technical knowledge of other zero‑emission technologies considered in New York, such as biofuels, hydrogen, deep geothermal, carbon capture and storage, long‑duration energy storage, virtual power plants, and demand response. Cross‑cutting / General Areas Demonstrated problem‑solving and negotiating skills to reach pragmatic solutions for complex issues and competing stakeholder views. Mentor and develop talent, building teams that achieve potential and deliver outcomes. Strong interpersonal skills to work cross‑functionally, understand requirements, and present alternatives and recommendations. Knowledge of state and federal regulatory processes related to energy project siting and operations, with preference for nuclear energy knowledge.
