Summit City Steel Erection (SCSE) is looking for an experienced Steel Erection Foreman to lead field crews on structural steel and industrial projects. If you know steel erection, take safety seriously, and can keep a crew productive while maintaining high-quality work, we want to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of your crew, make decisions in the field, and play an important role in getting projects completed safely and efficiently. You'll work alongside experienced field leaders, receive company-provided training, and have a path to advance into a Superintendent position.

What You'll Do

As a Steel Erection Foreman, you'll lead daily field operations and ensure your crew has the direction, materials, and equipment needed to work safely and efficiently.

Crew Leadership & Daily Planning

• Lead morning safety meetings and job hazard analyses.
• Assign daily tasks and coordinate materials, tools, and equipment before work begins.
• Keep the crew focused on production goals and budgeted labor hours.
• Provide guidance and hands-on training to apprentices and newer team members.
• Hold crew members accountable for safety, quality, and productivity.
• Run smaller jobs independently when a Superintendent is not on site.

Safety & Quality Control

• Serve as the competent person for your crew, as applicable to the assigned work and training.
• Ensure work follows current erection drawings and project requirements.
• Check piece marks, layout, plumb, alignment, bolting, and welding.
• Verify required bracing is installed before temporary supports are removed.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions or quality issues arise.
• Conduct weekly toolbox talks and maintain safe work practices.

Jobsite Coordination & Documentation

• Communicate shortages, drawing conflicts, access issues, and schedule concerns to the Superintendent promptly.
• Track daily progress against planned labor hours.
• Complete daily reports, crew time, and safety and quality forms using a phone or tablet.
• Keep company vehicles, tools, rigging, and equipment organized and accounted for.
• Arrive on site ahead of the crew, with the task, materials, and equipment ready to go.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a dependable, hands-on leader who understands steel erection and knows how to get the best out of a crew.

Required qualifications:

• At least 4 years of field steel erection experience.
• At least 1 year of experience leading a crew.
• Experience working in steel mills or heavy industrial plants.
• Ability to read and interpret erection drawings and connection details independently.
• A proven record of maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.
• Comfortable completing daily documentation using a phone or tablet.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Residence within approximately two hours of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Don't have every certification? That's okay. Certifications are not required at hire. SCSE provides training and supports employees in obtaining the qualifications needed for their work.

Preferred Qualifications

These are a plus, but are not required:

• OSHA 30 or competent person training.
• Rigger and signal person training.
• Current welding qualification.
• Aerial lift or forklift certification.
• First aid and CPR certification.
• Experience with Procore or other digital field reporting systems.
• English and Spanish communication skills.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on field position working on active construction sites and inside operating steel mills and industrial facilities.

• Work outdoors in all seasons and in environments with varying temperatures, noise, and dust.
• Work at heights using required fall protection and PPE.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Arrive on site before the crew to prepare for the day's work.
• Travel is generally local, and most jobs allow you to return home at night.

A pre-employment drug screen, background check, and driving record check are required.
