About the Organization
CP Rochester and Happiness House are private nonprofit health, educational, residential and human service organizations that have been serving communities in the Finger Lakes Region since 1969 and the Greater Rochester Area since 1946. Today with sites in Rochester, Canandaigua, Geneva, Gorham, Midlakes and Waterloo, our agencies offer an array of educational, therapeutic, recreational, residential and family support programs and services for children and adults with and without disabilities. On average, our agencies serve 3,650 families each year and employ approximately 600 people.

Our staff consists of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals and clinicians with expertise in the areas of Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Physical, Occupational, Speech and Music Therapies, Psychology, Service Coordination, Nursing, Dental Services, and Developmental Disabilities.


Committed to serving individuals with autism, traumatic brain injury, neurological impairments, as well as a wide variety of developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, our staff partners with individuals and their families to support them in meeting their goals.

Description

Job Title: Supportive Housing Assistant

Location: Happiness House - Canandaigua Apartments

Salary: $20.00 per hour

Employment: Part Time position (10 hours per week). Days and hours are flexible and determined based on tenant/activity schedule. Schedule to include 2 weekday evenings and 1 weekend day.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. 2 years' experience providing supports and services to special populations, experience working with individuals over the age of 55 preferred
  3. Proven ability to work independently
  4. Valid NYS driver's license/dependable vehicle
Competency Requirements:
  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  2. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  3. Recreational experience preferred but not required
Responsibilities include:
  1. Imparts agency philosophy of 'Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential' to children, families, program staff and community resources.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  3. Offers and supports formal and informal opportunities for assigned tenants to socialize with their peers and families.
  4. Promotes on-going socialization outside those activities scheduled by them.
  5. Offers and promotes activities (individual and small group) that enhances tenants' understanding of and access to community activities and resources.
  6. Offers and promotes activities (group and/or individual) that maintain or improve cognitive function, problem solving and activities of daily living.
  7. Provides activities and supports that promote orientation (person, place, time) as required for assigned tenants.
  8. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to tenants and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  9. Works collaboratively with the Housing Specialist to keep them informed of any concerns that could impact the tenants' housing.
  10. Has face to face contact with assigned tenants at least 4 times per month to encourage participation in activities.
  11. Maintains written records that meets agency and regulatory requirements of interactions and supports provided to assigned tenants.
  12. Provide tenants with reminders of any routine trainings and tenant activities available to them through the apartment complex.
  13. Completes required funder reports.
  14. Reports any hazardous situation to Maintenance and Apartment Manager immediately.
  15. Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training to enhance job skills and personal growth and development as determined by the Supervisor.
  16. Adheres to the agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  17. Performs other duties at the discretion of the Program Director or Vice-President or his/her designee.
  18. Participates in conferences, workshops, department meetings and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.

Work Environment: This job operates in an apartment setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

The employee frequently is required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.

Travel: Travel is primarily local. Some out-of-the-area travel may be expected based on activity.
