QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A valid New York State School Building Administrator certificate
  2. A minimum of five (5) years of satisfactory teaching experience and/or supervisory experience in the public schools.
  3. An exceptional educator who has demonstrated school leadership within the Elementary School setting.
SUPERVISES:
  1. The School Principal is the Chief Administrator, the operations manager, and the educational leader of the school. As chief administrator, the principal represents the school system management and is responsible for the implementation of district-level decisions and school board policy.
  2. The Principal supervises the current and continuing operations of the school. The Principal is responsible for supervising both the process and content activities involved in the delivery of educational services and is, therefore, the administrator directly accountable for the quality of the instructional program in the school.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Promotes the continuous educational development of each student.
  2. Makes the school facility an attractive, pleasant and productive place in which to work and learn.
  3. Plans, manages and evaluates instructional and administrative systems so as to maximize student and staff achievement and satisfaction.
  4. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  5. Supervises the planning, organizing and implementation of all school activities.
  6. Initiates, designs and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  7. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct and health of the students.
  8. Assumes leadership in the development, implementation, revision and evaluation of the curriculum.
  9. Plans, supervises and evaluates the school's extra-curricular program.
  10. Supervises all professional, paraprofessional and classified personnel attached to the school.
  11. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  12. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training, teacher placement, preparation, and practice teacher placement.
  13. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process for the rights of the students.
  14. Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation and support.
  15. Promotes parental involvement in the school program through such things as PTA activities, school visitation, orientation programs and parent conferences.
  16. Prepares and submits the school's budgeting request within the approved allocation and monitors expenditures of funds.
  17. Supervises the various local funds generated by student activities.
  18. Conducts staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, etc.
  19. Works with central administrative staff as necessary to resolve school and district level concerns and problems.
  20. Coordinates or supervises such support services as maintenance, security, food service, financial and accounting functions.
  21. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training and assigning of the school's professional, paraprofessional and classifies staff.
  22. Plans and supervises fire drills and emergency preparedness programs.
  23. Provides for the preparation of reports, records and lists in a timely and organized fashion as required for the school's administration.
  24. Participates in principal's meetings, negotiations and any other appropriate meetings as required.
  25. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and other school sponsored activities and functions.
  26. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading journals and publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  27. Initiates and coordinates among the staff the development of grantsmanship offerings in the private sector to provide the resources in the improvement of curriculum and instruction.
  28. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
