We are looking for someone who wants more than just their next job. The right candidate will have the opportunity to develop into a General Manager and potentially a multi-unit leadership role as additional locations open.

Position Summary

The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager and ownership team to support daily café operations, employee training, customer service, product quality, cleanliness, inventory, scheduling, reporting, and overall store performance.

This is a hands-on leadership position . You will work alongside the team, solve problems, coach employees, enforce standards, improve procedures, and help drive the performance of the store.

For someone who wants to advance in hospitality, this role offers meaningful responsibility and direct exposure to ownership and senior management. You will gain experience not only in daily operations, but also in the business side of managing and growing multiple bakery café locations.

The position requires flexibility, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and additional hours when business needs require it.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the General Manager in all aspects of daily bakery café operations.
• Maintain high standards for customer service, cleanliness, product quality, and guest experience.
• Lead by example and work alongside employees during busy periods.
• Train, coach, and develop employees.
• Delegate tasks and follow up to ensure completion.
• Assist with employee scheduling and performance management.
• Manage POS systems and support catering and special orders.
• Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, product availability, and waste control.
• Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
• Track sales, labor, inventory, waste, and operational issues.
• Support health inspection readiness and food-safety compliance.
• Communicate issues promptly to the General Manager and ownership team.
• Help improve operating procedures and systems.
• Support promotions, community outreach, and sales-driving initiatives.
• Assume General Manager responsibilities when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college preferred.
• 2–4 years of food service, café, restaurant, bakery, hospitality, or retail management experience preferred.
• Previous supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
• Strong customer service and hospitality skills required.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• POS experience required; Toast experience is a plus.
• Basic Excel or spreadsheet experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be dependable, punctual, accountable, and comfortable taking responsibility.
• Must be willing to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Must be willing to complete required paid training.
• Must be comfortable working hands-on in all areas of the café.

Career Growth

We want this role to be more than an Assistant General Manager position.

An Assistant General Manager who demonstrates strong command of store operations, develops the team, and consistently achieves operating goals will be considered for advancement to General Manager .

Advancement will generally be evaluated after approximately 9–12 months of demonstrated performance , based on readiness and results.

• Achievement of sales and operating targets.

• Accurate and timely reporting.
• Ability to independently lead the operation.

As ACK F&B continues to expand across Maryland and Virginia, successful General Managers may also have opportunities to advance into multi-unit or Regional Manager roles , supporting multiple stores, developing managers, and assisting with future store openings.
