Medical Technologist

The Medical Technologist II is responsible for performing moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role conducts clinical laboratory analyses across multiple disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, morphology, urinalysis, serology, and microbiology, while ensuring compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and laboratory procedures. In addition to testing responsibilities, the Medical Technologist II supports competency assessments, quality control programs, CAP survey compliance, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and laboratory operations. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. Key Responsibilities Clinical Laboratory Testing Perform moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures and regulatory standards. Conduct chemical, microscopic, hematological, serological, and bacteriological testing on patient specimens. Perform testing in areas including: Hematology Morphology Urinalysis Serology Microbiology Analyze blood, urine, body fluids, and other specimens to identify normal and abnormal findings. Visually identify and enumerate red blood cells, white blood cells, and other cellular components. Interpret laboratory test results and correlate findings with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition. Accurately document and enter test results into laboratory information systems. Quality Assurance & Compliance Conduct competency assessments for moderate and high-complexity testing within the laboratory and region. Support regulatory compliance initiatives and laboratory accreditation requirements. Serve as the responsible individual for CAP Survey Attestation activities. Perform quality control studies to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of laboratory data. Monitor and maintain compliance with laboratory policies, procedures, and quality standards. Instrumentation & Maintenance Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical laboratory equipment used for diagnostic testing. Verify instrument performance through calibration, quality control, and routine operational checks. Perform routine preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments according to established schedules. Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and document corrective actions. Maintain instrument logs and documentation related to repairs, maintenance, and equipment performance. Coordinate with vendors or technical support personnel when advanced repairs are required. Laboratory Operations Maintain accurate laboratory records and testing documentation. Ensure proper handling, processing, and storage of specimens. Assist with workflow management and operational efficiency initiatives. Adhere to laboratory safety policies and procedures. Collaborate with physicians, laboratory staff, and healthcare professionals to support patient care. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in: Medical Technology Clinical Laboratory Science Chemical Science Physical Science Related laboratory science discipline Degree must be obtained from an accredited institution. Knowledge of clinical laboratory testing methodologies and laboratory operations. Ability to perform moderate and high-complexity testing independently. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Ability to interpret laboratory findings and recognize abnormal results. Excellent organizational and attention-to-detail skills. Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy. Proficiency with laboratory information systems and electronic applications. Ability to use standard office and laboratory technology, including: Computer applications K eyboards Telephones Electronic laboratory systems Color vision capability required. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory experience. Experience performing testing in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology, and microbiology. Experience working in CAP-accredited and high-complexity laboratory environments. Strong troubleshooting skills related to laboratory instrumentation and testing systems. Demonstrated ability to resolve complex clinical, technical, and instrument-related issues. Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Certifications Preferred Medical Technologist (MT) Certification – ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certification – ASCP Professional laboratory certifications are strongly preferred. Education Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical Science, Physical Science, or a related laboratory science field from an accredited institution. Experience Clinical laboratory experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is highly desirable. Experience performing moderate and high-complexity testing in a hospital, clinical, reference, or diagnostic laboratory setting is preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
