Assistant Athletic Trainer

To help provide care and treatment to all student high school athletes. Also, work under the direction of the head athletic trainer to carry out activities in prevention, evaluation, emergency situations, medical treatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor's degree
• Valid license from Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
• Current adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification
• Prior Experience working in secondary level (preferred)
• Sports Medicine 1&2 Instructor certification (preferred)
• NATA BOC Certification (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation services
• Ability to provide emergency care
• Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to apply appropriate treatment to treat student athletic injuries
• Knowledge of student athletic programs, policies, and procedures
• Knowledge of infectious disease prevention and protocols
• Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
• Have good organizational and interpersonal communication skills

Experience:

• Experience and familiarity with Rank One Software Program
• Prior Experience working in the secondary level

Job Specific Requirements:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Will aid in overseeing high school and junior high school athletics
• Work in conjunction with campus nurses, athletic staff, and head athletic trainer
• Other duties as assigned by the head athletic trainer
• Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents including medical, accident, and treatment records as required.
• Maintain emotional control under stress
• Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by athletic director.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical personnel, coaches, and other staff.
• Fit injured athletes with specialized equipment and oversee its use.
• Respond to emergencies and make quick, independent judgments about how to deal with injuries
• Provide physical conditioning training to student athletes.
• Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and using tape, wraps, splints, braces, and other protective devices as needed.
• Maintain emotional control under stress
• Write routine reports and/or correspondences
• Ability to compile and maintain documents
