Risk Management Specialist
Renown Health
Risk Management Specialist
This position is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk exposures with a primary focus on liability reduction for vulnerabilities in the healthcare setting. It facilitates organizational processes for capturing, analyzing, and responding to incidents, claims, and other risk indicators that may result in financial, legal, or reputational impact. The role ensures that risk events are systematically evaluated, escalated appropriately, and addressed through structured investigation and corrective action. It partners across multiple departments to strengthen internal controls, improve risk visibility, and reduce the likelihood of loss.
This position manages systems designed to detect, monitor, analyze, and report adverse events, claims activity, and operational risk indicators. It coordinates organizational responses to high-risk occurrences- including complaints, claims, near misses, and significant events- and participates in structured analyses to identify causes, control gaps, and opportunities for risk mitigation. Additionally, the role provides education and guidance on risk mitigation practices, documentation standards, and litigation readiness to reduce organizational exposure.
This position leads structured investigations into events with potential or actual liability to identify systemic vulnerabilities, strengthen internal controls, and ensure effective mitigation strategies are implemented and sustained. It collaborates with leadership and operational teams to drive risk mitigation strategies and ensure timely follow-through on identified issues to reduce claim frequency and severity. The role monitors incident and claims activity to identify trends, emerging risks, and areas of potential exposure, facilitating appropriate reporting and response. It supports claims management processes and works closely with internal and external stakeholders to assist in litigation readiness and defense efforts, including detailed record review and analysis, evaluating liability exposure, and contributing to defense and settlement planning and execution.
This position is responsible for tracking, trending, and investigating events that may result in liability exposure, including potentially compensable and preventable occurrences. It serves as a key resource to leadership on matters related to organizational and clinical risk, providing insight and recommendations to minimize financial and legal impact. Strong leadership and communication capabilities are required, including influencing stakeholders, driving a just culture, and promoting a proactive risk management culture. The role supports the development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies through continuous assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of initiatives.
It is common to encounter potential hazards in the healthcare environment. Some of these hazards could include, but are not limited to: Radiation, Toxic Chemicals, Biological Hazards, Heat, Noise, Dust and Stress.
