About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (3 shifts per week or 4 shifts per week) Experience: 1 year in acute care required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required - Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 6 months of hire or transfer Must-Have: - Associate Degree (A.S.) required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Description: Provides nursing care, including triage, treatment, and discharge care for emergency department patients, from newborns to geriatrics. Completes accurate triage assessments on all patients and notifies the Emergency MD of all abnormal signs, symptoms, and vital signs consistently. Reviews and completes patient orders in a timely manner. Provides medication side effects education to all patients receiving medication in the emergency department and includes this teaching in discharge instructions. Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies consistently. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Demonstrates competence in all routine nursing skills, including medication administration and intravenous therapy. Maintains care and management of indwelling catheters and drains. Ensures safe use of any medical equipment used in the critical care setting. Understands and follows the chain of command as per policy. Accurately interprets ECG rhythms and manages care during life-threatening emergencies. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill in providing care during emergency activations. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient responses to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Facilitates safe and timely coordination and collaboration with inpatient units when admitting patients.
