PetSmart Veterinary Services of Escondido is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our growing, locally owned franchised hospital.

PetSmart Veterinary Services of Escondido provides veterinary care for small animals and PetSmart companion animals and exotics as needed. We are a comprehensive care clinic that specializes in surgical procedures as well as general and urgent care. About the Opportunity

The Registered Veterinary Technician will play a key role in supporting doctor efficiency, patient care, client education, anesthesia, dentistry, diagnostics, and overall hospital flow.

This role is ideal for an experienced RVT who enjoys being fully utilized, values high medical standards, and is excited by the opportunity to help mentor, train, and support other members of the medical team. We are looking for someone who can lead by example, elevate patient care, and help newer technicians and assistants continue building their confidence and skills.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with the practice owner and doctors in a collaborative environment where patient care is led by veterinary professionals, not corporate clinical mandates or one-size-fits-all protocols.

Schedule

This is intended to be a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician position. Exact workdays may vary based on hospital needs and candidate availability.

Part-time candidates may also be considered.

What You’ll Do

As a Registered Veterinary Technician, you will provide high-quality medical care while helping foster our positive, professional, and client-centered hospital culture.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide skilled nursing care for dogs, cats, and occasional companion animals and exotics as needed
• Assist veterinarians with preventive care, diagnostics, treatments, dentistry, surgery, and general medicine
• Support doctor efficiency through patient preparation, diagnostics, treatments, client communication, and hospital flow
• Perform patient intake, obtain medical histories, and assist with physical examinations
• Place IV catheters, perform venipuncture, collect samples, and run in-house diagnostics
• Assist with radiology, laboratory testing, and medical record documentation
• Monitor anesthesia and support surgical and dental procedures
• Perform dental cleanings, dental radiographs, and dental charting within the scope of licensure and hospital protocols
• Administer medications, vaccines, treatments, and controlled substances as permitted by law and hospital policy
• Support patient recovery, comfort, and safe handling
• Educate clients on treatment plans, preventive care, medications, dentistry, discharge instructions, and follow-up recommendations
• Maintain accurate and complete medical records for anesthetic monitoring, historical information gathered from owners, vitals upon intake (temperature, Heart rate, respiratory rate, and weight) and medicaments provided to patient including vaccination type/location.
• Communicate patient status, treatment needs, and workflow updates to veterinarians and hospital team members
• Help maintain standards for patient care, client experience, safety, cleanliness, and hospital operations by collaborating with Hospital operator/manager and other teammates in monthly meetings.
• Follow hospital protocols, safety standards, controlled substance procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Aid in maintaining hospital cleanliness by participating in end-of-day cleaning tasks along with other staff, as well as cleaning stations used throughout the day.
• Aid in cleaning and maintenance of in-house diagnostic machines with appropriate training from IDEXX.
• Participate in continued education and professional development as required or assigned
• Support hospital growth, schedule expansion, and operational needs as directed
• Collection of payment from clients for services rendered using the provided platform.
• Other duties as assigned, advanced notice and descriptions to proceed the duties expected.

What We’re Looking For

• Active California Registered Veterinary Technician license, or ability to obtain one
• Prior experience as a veterinary technician in a general practice, urgent care, or similar clinical setting
• Strong technical skills in anesthesia, dentistry, venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory procedures, radiology, and patient nursing
• Confidence mentoring, training, and supporting veterinary assistants, newer technicians, and other team members
• A leadership mindset and willingness to help strengthen technical workflows, patient care standards, and team development
• A compassionate, patient-focused approach to care
• Clear communication skills with clients, doctors, and team members
• Interest in dentistry, surgery/anesthesia, and general practice medicine
• Comfort working with dogs and cats; interest or experience with companion animals and exotics is a plus
• Interest in building long-term relationships with pets, pet parents, and the hospital team
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to support team development
• A desire to work closely with a practice owner in a doctor-led hospital environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate medical records
• Passion for continued learning and elevating the standard of care
• Comfort working in a growing hospital environment

Compensation

The expected pay range for this position is:

• Registered Veterinary Technician: $30–$36per hour, based on experience, skills, qualifications, schedule, and hospital needs

Final compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including experience, licensure, technical skills, schedule, leadership ability, and the needs of the hospital.

The hospital does not request or rely on salary history in determining compensation.
