Histology Technologist - IRP - James Laboratory Support Services

Scope of Position The Histology Technologist 2 – IRP provides histological services to the dermatology department physicians performing MOHS surgeries, and supports the Histology laboratory within the division of Surgical Pathology. Responsibilities include tissue embedding, sorting, cutting, and staining slides for diagnosis, ensuring optimal processing during MOHS procedures, and assisting with quality control, equipment maintenance, accreditation preparation, and training. Position Summary Provides histological services to Dermatology Departments and main Histology Lab. Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of human tissue. Additional duties involve general paperwork, equipment maintenance, quality control, procedural audits, accreditation, training, and troubleshooting. Minimum Qualifications HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification preferred, or Bachelor’s degree with at least 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, or Associate degree with at least 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. Mohs experience preferred. Ongoing: Maintains HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) registry status or obtains certification within two years of hire; meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements; demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
