Qualifications: Applicants must have:
- Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or
- Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
- Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment. Mississippi uses ACT WorkKeys assessment scores to measure this standard.
- Reading for Information Passing score = 4
- Applied Mathematics Passing score = 4
- Writing or Business Writing Passing score = 3

Essential Functions:
Administration To assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties, detention and provide academic assistance to students in detention. The ISS Monitor position is responsible for ensuring that students that are placed in the In-School Suspension Program work toward completion of classroom assignments and given SEL assignments.
The ISS Monitor position is responsible for ensuring that students that are placed in the In-School Suspension Program work toward completion of classroom assignments and given SEL assignments.
Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:
- Monitor students who have had behavioral issues in class, keeping them on task and providing assistance with their work.
- Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, SEL (Social Emotional Learning), and other skills.
- Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
- Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
- Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
- Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
- Supervises students during bus duty, playground duty, and other related non-instructional areas.
- Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
- Constructs, copies and distribute and use educational materials as needed.
- Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
- Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement of IEP objectives, etc.
- Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
- Help with the facilitating of state assessments.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.
- Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT The paraprofessional with instructional duties will exhibit effective classroom management skills by:
- Providing a physical environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive to learning.
- Consistently implementing approved disciplinary measures to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
COMMUNICATION The paraprofessional will exhibit effective communication skills by:
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The paraprofessional with instructional duties will exhibit professional growth by:
- Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Participates in and completes the approved district Professional Development Program.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: The paraprofessional with instructional duties will comply with district and school policies by:
- Adhering to policies and procedures established by district, school, state, and federal guidelines.
- Submitting required reports efficiently, promptly, and accurately.
- Inventorying classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment.
Additional:
- Maintains appropriate professional appearance.
- Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
