Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (Part Time)

Department: Diagnostic Overall Purpose of the Position:
The cardiac sonographer is responsible for independently producing ultrasonic recordings of the heart, using ultrasound equipment; which includes image processing and evaluation.

Major Job Responsibilities: Percentage:
1. Assessment & Exam:

1. Confirms patient information and verifies the procedure prescribed.
2. Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of procedure.
3. Reviews the patient's chart and the physician's request to determine optimal scanning parameters.
4. Explains process to patient and instructs and assists patient in assuming the physical position for procedure.
5. Maintains aseptic techniques, as well as complying with isolation techniques when performing a procedure.
6. Transfer images\data to radiologist/cardiologist workstations and facility archive.

2. Quality Control:

1. Ensures that services are performed in a safe environment in accordance with established guidelines.
2. Reports on equipment problems and unsafe conditions to the manager to achieve problem resolution.
3. Ensure that protocol and procedure manuals include recommended criteria and are reviewed and revised on a regular basis.

3. Records and Documentation:

1. Documents diagnostic, treatment, and patient data in the appropriate record. Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise, and complete.
2. Creates compact disc of patient data/images when requested.
3. Demonstrates abilities using RIS/PACS which includes but not limited to sending and retrieving data, document scanning, correct order entry, billing, and correction of data errors. Records diagnostic or treatment data (including records necessary for billing of patient services) and performs routine archiving status checks and deletes data according to established guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications: Desired Skills & Knowledge:
General knowledge of imaging equipment and ultrasound physics, safety, medical terminology and department protocols. General knowledge of standard precautions, rules and regulations, government regulatory requirements and accrediting standards.


Basic knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; get along well with others; and demonstrate an attitude of respect and professionalism.


Code of Ethics: ability to meet the specific needs of patients with a variety of disabilities; retain emotional stability and maturity despite emotional and physical pressures; demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and initiative. Ability to promote a positive, collaborative practice atmosphere.
Licensure & Certification:
A current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS).
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Employees must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.


The position may work on rotating shifts, with work on weekends and holidays.
Hourly Rate:
Starting @ $44.40; based on experience
