Legal Billing & Staff Accountant
Salary: $80,000 – $95,000

Our client, a highly respected law firm, is seeking a Legal Billing & Staff Accountant to join its collaborative finance team. This role blends full-cycle legal billing with core accounting responsibilities and is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with attorneys while contributing to a structured, detail-oriented accounting function.

Schedule & Work Environment

• Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office after onboarding
• Initial training period: 6–10 weeks fully in office
• Flexible start time between 8:00–10:00 AM (8-hour day)
• Target start date: ASAP

Position Summary

This position supports the firm’s financial operations through a combination of billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting functions. The role is critical in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and legal accounting standards, and supporting smooth day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Billing & Revenue Cycle

• Prepare, edit, and finalize client bills, including pre-bills and monthly invoicing
• Partner with attorneys to manage billing workflows, edits, and write-offs
• Ensure compliance with client billing guidelines and documentation requirements
• Manage client payments and apply cash receipts to outstanding invoices
• Maintain client and matter records within the billing system
• Respond to billing inquiries and assist with audits as needed

Accounts Payable & Expense Management

• Process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements accurately and timely
• Track and input billable expenses from internal systems and vendors

General Accounting

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Prepare and post journal entries
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
• Prepare financial statements and internal reports
• Coordinate with external accounting firm and provide required reporting
• Support tax filings by following guidance from external accountants

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of legal billing and/or accounting experience within a law firm
• Strong understanding of billing cycles, A/R, A/P, and general accounting principles
• Experience with legal billing or accounting software
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with attorneys and staff
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Team Structure

You will be part of a small, collaborative accounting team, working closely with a supervisor and firm leadership to support the firm’s financial operations.
