Position: Elementary School Development Director (Job ID: 1931) Job Overview Part‑Time (20 hours per week). Location: Middletown, PA. School: Seven Sorrows BVM School. Payroll Grade 14. Nature of Position The purpose of this position is to develop and implement a comprehensive development program for the school and parish, involving parish community membership including faculty, staff, students, families, parishioners, and the general public. The Development Director will collaborate with the Pastor and/or Principal and participate in comprehensive planning, implementation, and evaluation of the parish’s/school’s goals, with particular focus on the development plan. Reporting Function Reports to Pastor and/or Principal. Responsibilities Collaborates with the Pastor and/or Principal to implement the educational mission of the parish, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of the parish’s/school’s goals. Directs the parish’s/school’s Development Plan by establishing short‑term (annual) and long‑term (3–5 year) goals based on the long‑range plan. Assists the Pastor and other leadership in developing the long‑range plan and facilitates the publication of a written case statement about the parish/school. Ensures a comprehensive public relations and communications plan to engage parish leadership, parents, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and local civic and business leaders. Establishes an Annual Appeal/Fund Program, planning, directing, and ensuring its implementation. Coordinates the creation of an Alumni Association and develops communication systems to keep alumni informed and engaged. Develops an Endowment Fund, including major gifts, bequests, and deferred giving opportunities. Secures EITC funding for scholarships. Manages a Major Gifts/Corporate Sponsorship Program by researching, cultivating, soliciting, and following up on major gifts and corporate donors. Performs other work‑related duties as assigned. Position Analysis Thorough knowledge of fund development principles and practices, including major and planned giving. Knowledge of church organizational and operational procedures. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including oral presentations. Creative, decisive, and collaborative, with strong negotiation and public relations abilities. Competitive and resourceful in an environment with many needs and limited resources. Basic math proficiency and experience with gift planning software such as Crescendo or PG CALC. Basic computer and office equipment skills. Educational/Work Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in communications, finance, marketing, or a related field, plus five to eight years of comparable experience. Preferred experience in the development field. Required experience running direct mail and advertising campaigns for planned giving. Ongoing professional development to maintain knowledge of tax codes and charitable giving standards. Specific knowledge of Catholic Church organization and procedures, or experience in a large non‑profit. Practicing Catholic required. Valid driver’s license required.
