RN Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care to patients experiencing labor, preterm labor, and related obstetric conditions. This role involves managing labor and delivery processes, supporting low-risk antepartum and postpartum care, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and comfort. The nurse is responsible for monitoring patient status, administering medications, and utilizing specialized equipment in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and proficiency with Epic systems are required.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care in labor rooms and triage, including circulating, OB-GYN support, post-op, pre-op, and scrub duties.
• Manage low-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, and transition nursery care.
• Attend all deliveries, including high-risk deliveries and GYN surgeries as needed.
• Administer blood and blood products, medications such as heparin, insulin, magnesium sulfate, and manage epidural, PCA, and syringe pumps.
• Perform special procedures including cardioversion/defibrillation and use of cooling/warming blankets and wound vac systems.
• Provide couplet care and NICU support based on skill set.
• Maintain appropriate staffing ratios (1:1 to 1:3) and float as required.
• Document patient care activities accurately using Epic electronic health records.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license with at least 2 years of labor and delivery experience.
• Proficiency in Epic electronic medical record system.
• Certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• ACLS certification preferred.
• Experience with NICU and postpartum care.
• Previous experience attending high-risk deliveries and GYN surgeries.

Special Considerations:

• Float assignments may include postpartum and NICU units based on skill set.
• Must be able to manage multiple labor rooms and triage areas.
• Travel contracts available for candidates separated from other facilities for at least 3 months.
• Active compact nursing licenses are honored across facilities.

Scheduling:

• Shift assignments include day and night shifts in labor and delivery units.
• Staffing ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
• Flexible floating to other units as needed.
