Details Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting MedSurg/Tele Neuro unit on the 4th floor North with 25 beds Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 Patient population includes strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures, and general medical surgical overflow Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive RNs required to titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips, and manage PCA pumps Tele techs interpret monitor strips, but RNs should maintain basic tele awareness Charge nurse present each shift and takes a patient assignment Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit with 1:10-20 ratios 12-hour night shifts, 1830-0700 Scheduled by the facility with limited block scheduling allowed Required to work at least every other weekend, with additional weekend shifts possible based on census Floating required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients awaiting a bed Uses Epic EMR Requirements Active RN license, either Nebraska state license or Compact (NLC) Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS Must have valid driver's license at time of consideration Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility No active license or background issues permitted Additional Information Provide direct patient care on a busy unit with frequent same-day discharges and admissions Strong focus on hourly rounding and patient responsiveness Mechanical lifts available in every other room Serves a culturally diverse patient population including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese speaking patients Success on this unit requires strong time management, reliable attendance, teamwork, and a compassionate, patient-first attitude 2 days of unit-specific orientation provided Navy blue scrubs required for RNs Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination Holiday coverage required for 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's Must complete a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation testing skills learned, requiring a 90% score to continue in the assignment Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity affiliated facility within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered American Traveler Job ID P-744395.
