Description: The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) serves a specialized patient population. Patients may include those recovering from trauma, cardiovascular surgeries, and neurosurgeries. Registered Nurses will be responsible for managing complex surgical patients. Primary diagnoses include acute ventilator needs, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleeds, and multi-system organ failure. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3, depending on patient acuity. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend. Nurses may be asked to float within the hospital as operational needs arise. Successful candidates will have strong critical care skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role does not require on-call duty. Travel pairs are not allowed within this unit. Candidates should be comfortable working with ventilators and managing patients with multiple organ dysfunction. The unit features a mixed population and may accommodate conscious sedation at the bedside.
