Residential Operations Supervisor (Solid Waste)

$25 to $40 per hour

The Residential Operations Supervisor plans, schedules, and directs the daily residential collection crews (Sideload and Grapple routes), including Crew Leaders, Lead Equipment Operators, and Equipment Operators. Responsible for route performance, crew scheduling, safety compliance, and first-line personnel management within residential operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
• Supervises and schedules residential collection crews and routes. 
• Monitors route completion, service requests, and missed-collection resolution. 
• Conducts safety briefings and monitors compliance with OSHA and DOT/CDL requirements. 
• Recommends and participates in hiring, discipline and discharge actions for assigned personnel; conducts performance evaluations, coaching and on-the-job training.
• Coordinates equipment readiness with the Field Services & Asset Coordinator and Fleet Division. 
• Responds to and resolves escalated residential service issues. 
• Maintains route, incident, and attendance records. 

Performance Expectations (KPIs): 
• Residential route completion rate 
• Missed-collection reports per 1,000 households 
• Crew safety incident rate 
• Overtime utilization against budget 

QUALIFICATIONS 
• Working knowledge of residential collection methods, equipment (sideload, grapple), and routing. 
• Demonstrated ability to lead and coach a field crew. 
• Ability to apply City personnel policy and (where applicable) collective bargaining provisions consistently. 
• Strong verbal communication and conflict-resolution skills. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 
High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of solid waste collection experience, including one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B 
• APWA Certified Public Works Supervisor (CPWP-S) — required within 18 months of hire/promotion 
• SWANA certification aligned to collection operations — required within 18 months of hire/promotion 
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry — required within 12 months of hire/promotion 

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Multi-vehicle qualification (Grapple/Sideloader/Frontloader) at time of hire 
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A
