Wellness Trainee John Geigle North Pinellas

Location YMCA of the Suncoast – John Geigle Branch North Pinellas Rate of Pay $14.50/hr – $15.00/hr Shift Shifts vary. Job Summary Under the direction of the Wellness Director/Coordinator and consistent with the mission of the YMCA of the Suncoast, the Wellness Trainee will work toward meeting all requirements of the Wellness Floor Coach position within 60 days from hire date. When scheduled to work in the wellness center, the trainee will meet and greet members, assist them by referring to appropriate staff for specific training needs, educate and enforce operational guidelines, maintain weight training equipment, keep facilities organized and clean, and provide care for members’ well‑being at all times. Education, Training, and Experience Must be at least 18 years old. High school graduate or equivalent required. Degree in Wellness, psychology, or communications preferred. Must be knowledgeable in selectorized equipment, free weight training principles, and YMCA fitness testing components. The candidate should have a strong personal commitment to overall wellness, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently. Required upon hire: completion of Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture, Ys Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE trainings. Additionally, the trainee must be working toward meeting the criteria of the Wellness Coach Position within 60 days of hire, including all listed certifications and assessments (e.g., Wellness Center Member Engagement Worksheet, Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y, Cause Driven Tour Workshop, Get SMART, YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning Certification, or a National Personal Trainer Certification, and current CPR/AED and First Aid certification). Special Skills or Equipment Required Effective communication and listening skills while assisting members in basic strength training and cardiovascular exercise. Understanding of member service concepts. Physical and/or Mental Requirements Ability and patience to assist members using effective communication and human relations skills with individuals of all socioeconomic levels. Ability to safely serve as a spotter. Capability to lift an equivalent of 50 pounds. Job Duties and Responsibilities Within 60 days of hire date, complete all requirements of the Wellness Coach Position. Monitor wellness areas, including locker room, and meet and greet members. Respond to member questions and seek additional information when needed. Engage in positive public relations with members. Maintain professionalism at all times and wear approved uniform with nametag. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean the facility, and care for equipment. Maintain cleanliness of all selectorized and free weight equipment. Responsible for care, returning, and storage of all equipment. Fill all bottles and change towels in fitness center when needed. Record all maintenance duties in the proper logbook. Exercise sound judgment in relation to member safety and injuries. Follow all emergency procedures and be able to administer CPR and First Aid. Takes responsibility for certain housekeeping duties as directed and required. Attend all staff meetings, in‑house trainings, demonstrations, and special promotions as designated by supervisor. Control occupancy and traffic flow on all equipment. Be knowledgeable about and able to enforce wellness floor policies and practices. Personal workouts are encouraged but must be scheduled during off‑duty hours. Notify supervisor at least two days in advance of absence; arrange coverage with another floor staff person and confirm with supervisor.
