The Community RN Career Direct Care Pathway consists of four distinct levels based on the RN's experience, education, and qualifications.
Level I - Less than 12 months of RN experience.
Level II - 12 months to less than 3 years of RN experience.
Level III - 3 years to less than 8 years of RN experience.
Level IV - 8 years or more of RN experience.
Position Overview
The RN Complex Care is responsible for delivering direct nursing care to patients and their families, adhering to established policies, procedures, and practices within a complex care environment.
Location : Main Campus
Unit : ICU-1
Shift : 36 hours, Evenings | Nights 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Weekends and holidays are required.
Unit Overview:
ICU-1 is a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit that caters to critically ill patients with medical and surgical needs, including cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, hematologic, obstetric, gastrointestinal, renal, vascular, and multi-system conditions. Patients may require hemodynamic or respiratory support, close monitoring, or intensive nursing care, including the use of IABP, Impella devices, lysis, EKOS, TPA, hemodialysis, CRRT, PA lines, or 24-hour EEG monitoring.
Our ICU staff benefit from ongoing bedside and classroom training, as well as educational opportunities. Newly hired nurses participate in AACN’s online training program, ECCO, as part of their onboarding process. Our mission is to provide exceptional patient care to every individual in the ICU.Job Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Valid Massachusetts RN Licensure.
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
3. Department-specific certifications relevant to the type of patient care may be required.
4. Experience level based on classification (I, II, III, or IV).
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are intended to outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
Engages in and maintains awareness of performance improvement initiatives.
Evaluates and incorporates evidence-based practices and research into clinical care.
Conducts and accurately documents clinical assessments.
Creates, implements, and assesses individualized patient care plans.
Utilizes professional nursing judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessments.
Manages patient assignments by delegating tasks effectively according to patient needs and team member skills.
Develops comprehensive educational plans for patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources and documenting per departmental standards.
Respects patient and family rights by supporting informed decisions and advanced directives.
Continuously evaluates and adjusts care plans based on changes in patient health status.
Creates thorough discharge plans using appropriate resources and referrals, including community services.
Assists in the development of new staff members and facilitates their integration into the unit.
Mentors department staff to promote professional growth through precepting.
Engages in professional development by identifying learning needs and pursuing relevant education.
Participates in departmental committees as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
1. Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and repositioning of patients.
2. Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
3. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
4. Exposure to infectious diseases and potential carcinogenic substances.
5. Risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
6. Requires fine motor skills for patient handling.
7. Requires visual and auditory acuity to monitor patient care.
Skills & Abilities:
1. Proficient communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare teams.
2. Knowledge and application of the nursing process.
