About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neurosciences Duration: 26 Weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 48 Experience: 1 year preferred License: Current RN License Certifications: Current Basic Life Support Must-Have: Stroke experience and NIHSS preferred Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Schedule includes potentially working in a virtual room. This is a Stroke and Neuro floor. The unit also includes orthopedic and spine patients. The facility is a comprehensive stroke center. Ratios for patient assignment are 3:1 for stroke patients and 5:1 for all other patients. Required skills include knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer skills are required. An Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. No preferred certifications or licensures are noted.
