The Campus Police Officer is a full-time, 12-month position responsible to the Lieutenant, Campus Police. To enforce the law, provide service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Responsible for enforcement duties for the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and all property within the area under the control and jurisdiction of the Tyler Junior College District, including primary jurisdiction in all counties where the Tyler Junior College District has real property interest and secondary jurisdiction in all other Texas counties. Exercises independent judgment within the limits prescribed by law, Board of Trustee Policy, institutional rules and regulations, and Tyler Junior College Police Department policies and procedures. The starting salary within the range depends on individual experience and education. The salary range does not reflect total compensation, which includes base salary, benefits, and certification pay. This position does have the potential for overtime. Certification pay is determined based on TCOLE Licensure, as listed in the chart below

To perform law enforcement duties on the property under the control and jurisdiction of the Tyler Junior College District. Preserve the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding, when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime. Execute all lawful processes. Arrest offenders with and without a warrant when authorized by law. Investigate criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals, and recover stolen or lost property. Attempt to locate missing persons. Enforce traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody, or issuing citations or warnings. Investigate motor vehicle collisions. Prepare various written reports narrating law enforcement and police activities. Give testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States. Confers with prosecuting attorneys preserves evidence, and maintains confidential information. Confers with local law enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest.

SUPERVISION Received: Direct supervision of work by Sergeant or another supervisor. Given: As assigned based on department policy. EQUIPMENT Required: Proficient with all equipment utilized to perform assigned duties, including but not limited to firearms, restraints, less-lethal force weapons and techniques, automobiles, communications equipment, personal computers, and investigative and surveillance equipment. PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above the head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding, good physical condition and vision, ability to hear and speak. WORKING CONDITIONS Usual: Exposure to outside weather conditions. Must be able to work either day, evening, or night hours on any shift with possible varying days off and on holidays. Subject to emergency recall during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Work involves a degree of hazard.

OTHER Must hold a Peace Officer Commission, issued by the Chief of Police of the Tyler Junior College Police Department, and a valid driver's license not subject to suspension. Must be eligible to drive an institution-owned or leased motor vehicle. Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Chief of Police, the Board of Trustees, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education. Must have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a commissioned police officer of the Tyler Junior College Police Department. Knowledge and skills in emergency medical procedures, first aid, and CPR techniques. Applicant must pass all phases of the hiring and selection process as outlined in department policy 401A before being offered the position of police officer. Commissioned service as a peace officer and certifications to be considered is reflected in the TCOLE Data Distribution System, TCLEEDS. Must successfully complete a minimum 12-month evaluation period immediately following field training. This position is classified as security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.

OFFICER CERTIFICATIONS Available additional monthly pay for Officer Certifications at Intermediate, Advanced, and Master levels.
