Startup Tech II

Job Summary DynaTen, a Comfort Systems USA Company, is seeking a Startup Technician II to join our Startup team. This position is responsible for performing routine startup, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities for commercial mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and control systems. The Startup Technician II should be able to perform standard startup tasks with limited supervision, recognize common installation or operational issues, communicate findings clearly, and coordinate effectively with project teams and trade partners. Key Responsibilities Perform startup activities for commercial HVAC and mechanical equipment with limited supervision. Conduct jobsite inspections before startup to help verify installation is complete, accessible, and consistent with manufacturer instructions and project requirements. Perform operational testing and assist with functional performance verification. Troubleshoot common electrical, controls, mechanical, and airflow-related issues. Review drawings, submittals, equipment data, wiring diagrams, and sequence of operations. Document startup results, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up items clearly and accurately. Recommend improvements to startup forms, checklists, and documentation based on field experience. Communicate startup status, concerns, and deficiencies to project teams, trade partners, and internal leadership. Assist installing contractors with startup-related questions and field coordination. Support warranty-related troubleshooting when needed. Participate in technical meetings and jobsite discussions as needed. Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures. Continue developing knowledge of HVAC systems, control systems, equipment operation, and commissioning practices. Technical Knowledge and Skills Working understanding of mechanical, electrical, controls, airflow, and air conditioning theory. Working knowledge of commercial HVAC and mechanical equipment startup requirements. Working understanding of various control systems used in commercial buildings and data center environments. Ability to troubleshoot routine issues involving motors, motor controls, pumps, fans, economizers, VFDs, sensors, actuators, and DDC hardware. Ability to read and interpret drawings, submittals, wiring diagrams, equipment schedules, and sequence of operations. Ability to apply manufacturer startup instructions and project-specific startup procedures. Ability to produce clear, timely, and concise documentation. Proficient computer skills, including Excel, Word, Procore, CxAlloy, or similar tools. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Required Qualifications 4 to 6 years of related field experience. Ability to perform routine startup activities with limited supervision. Ability to identify and communicate common installation, electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues. Ability to complete accurate startup documentation. Strong planning, organization, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to safety, integrity, quality, and customer service. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. EPA certification required or must be obtained after hire. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 required or must be obtained after hire. Preferred Qualifications Commercial HVAC startup, service, commissioning, or controls experience. Experience with air handling units, pumps, fans, VFDs, economizers, chilled water systems, DX systems, and evaporative cooling systems. Experience with DDC controls, embedded controls, sensors, actuators, and control sequences. Experience using Procore, CxAlloy, Microsoft Project, or similar project documentation software. Manufacturer training, trade school, TAB exposure, controls training, or commissioning-related training.
