Custodian (37.5 Hour)

Custodian – Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School, Danielson (Killingly), CT. Responsibilities Perform custodial tasks and maintenance of dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms and lavatories including outdoor areas. Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers. Wash, dust, and polish glass including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and metal equipment. Make beds and manage linens, blankets, and clothing within the work area. Collect and count soiled laundry and distribute, empty, and sterilize glassware, wash basins, and bedpans. Sweep and dispose of trash; report needs for repairs and perform minor maintenance. Run errands, inspect buildings for damage, and report conditions to supervisor. Change light bulbs, replace fuses, lubricate or tighten door hinges, drawers, and cabinets. Replace ceiling or floor tiles, remove snow and ice from stairways and walkways, sand and salt stairways and walkways. Move furniture and set up classrooms as needed. Perform related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Any experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Preferred Qualifications Experience performing custodial work in a school. Experience waxing and polishing floors using floor polishers and buffers. Experience moving furniture in a school and setting up classrooms. Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around large buildings. Experience with deep cleaning and disinfecting large facilities. Physical Requirements Have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity to perform duties. Must be able to lift moderate to heavy weights. A physical examination may be required.
