Project Manager - Public Works

Description Performs administrative duties. Provides security for police operations by recording and monitoring activities. May be required to handle property and evidence and other duties as assigned. This position closes on January 9, 2008. Candidates will be given one week to submit supplemental information Essential Functions Controls access and monitors entrance and outside/indoor activities by electronic surveillance. Transports equipment among facilities by car or light vehicle and ensures proper vehicle maintenance. Monitors, receives and records phone calls. Maintains files and daily staffing line-up sheets. Handles property and evidence by reviewing vouchers to ensure property is listed, packaging evidence and transporting it to Property and Accounting Division. Patrols area and issues necessary citations. Facilitates towing and directs traffic as needed. Ability to attain within the probationary period (six months) VCIN Certification, NCIC Certification. Ability to learn and use other police/city computer systems. Follows oral or written instructions to interpret area regulations. Ability to sit stand, walk, and climb for extended periods of time. Performs related duties as required. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License. Education/Experience Requires equivalent to graduation from high school, some knowledge of police responsibilities, electronic surveillance, radio communications and related office equipment or equivalent training and experience. Must meet minimum Commonwealth of Virginia standards for unarmed security officers. Must successfully complete Norfolk Police Department Operations Officer School. Eligibility Requirements Be a minimum of 18. Have high school diploma or a general education development certificate. Have valid driver's license. Have an Honorable Discharge if the applicant is a veteran of the Armed Forces Additional Information & Requirements Please read this section carefully. AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFIERS Any one of these disqualifiers will make you ineligible for employment as a Norfolk Police Officer. CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS Any felony conviction. Conviction of any offense involving moral turpitude, including larceny, concealment, bad checks, embezzlement, and/ or perjury. DRUG USAGE Any use of any opiates (heroin, morphine, methadone, etc.) or any illegal hallucinogen (e.g. LSD, MDZ, etc.) Any substantiated illegal act, including the possession, sale, manufacture or distribution of any narcotic, controlled substance or dangerous drug, as defined by state, or federal law, except the use of marijuana, which is evaluated on the frequency of use. Any use of marijuana or hashish or illegal steroids within the six (6) months before submitting an application or any time thereafter. DRIVING RECORD Current driver’s license suspension. Driver’s license suspension within the past 12 months because of moving violations. Conviction of drunk driving or driving under the influence within the past three (3) years. Conviction of a misdemeanor hit and run. More than five (5) Division of Motor Vehicle demerit points. MILITARY Dishonorable discharge from the military. Bad conduct discharge from the military. Note: Other disqualifiers may also apply. Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. Tuition Assistance Program The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply.
