Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Non‐Emergency Transport
**Location:** Dillon, South Carolina
**Job Type:** Part-Time
**Department:** Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) / EMS
**Reports To:** Operations Supervisor / EMS Director

Position Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Non-Emergency Transport is responsible for providing safe, professional, and compassionate basic medical care and transportation for patients who require scheduled or non-emergency medical transport. This includes interfacility transfers, hospital discharges, dialysis trips, and other medically necessary transports.

The EMT functions within the South Carolina EMT scope of practice, applicable state regulations, and company/agency protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. **Non-Emergency Patient Transport**
- Safely operate an ambulance in accordance with company policy and South Carolina traffic laws.
- Provide non-emergency transport for patients to and from hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, dialysis centers, residences, and other approved locations.
- Assist patients with getting in and out of vehicles, including stretcher, wheelchair, or ambulation assistance as appropriate.

2. **Patient Assessment & Basic Care**
- Obtain basic medical history, vital signs, and information relevant to the patient’s condition.
- Provide basic life support (BLS) within EMT scope of practice if a patient’s condition changes during transport.
- Monitor patient status during transport and communicate any changes to receiving facility staff and/or medical control as required.

3. **Documentation & Communication**
- Complete accurate, timely, and legible electronic or paper patient care reports (PCRs) and transport documentation.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, facilities, patients, families, and caregivers.
- Ensure proper documentation of mileage, times, and other information necessary for compliance and billing.

4. **Safety, Compliance & Vehicle Readiness**
- Perform daily vehicle checks, including equipment, supplies, cleanliness, and mechanical readiness.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe patient care environment inside the vehicle.
- Follow all infection control procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper cleaning/disinfection after each transport.
- Adhere to HIPAA and all company, local, state, and federal regulations.

5. **Customer Service & Professionalism**
- Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate care to all patients, families, and facility staff.
- Represent the organization professionally in appearance, attitude, and communication.
- De-escalate difficult situations and maintain a calm, reassuring presence.

Qualifications

- **Required**
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current South Carolina EMT certification (or eligibility to obtain).
- Current CPR/BLS certification (AHA or equivalent).
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
- Ability to lift, move, and transfer patients and equipment safely

- **Preferred**
- Previous experience in EMS, non-emergency medical transport, or healthcare setting.
- EVOC/CEVO or equivalent emergency vehicle operator training.
- Familiarity with local healthcare facilities and service area.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

- Frequent lifting, bending, and carrying of patients and equipment.
- Working in and out of vehicles in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to sit, drive, and remain attentive for extended periods.
- Exposure to bodily fluids and sharp instruments with required PPE provided.
