Overview Stewart & Stevenson is Now Hiring a Painter II at 10750 Telge Road Houston, TX 77095. The Painter Level II is an intermediate-level role responsible for independently preparing, painting, and finishing parts to meet UE Manufacturing quality standards. This position requires solid experience in industrial painting, the ability to read and interpret blueprints or work orders, and the capability to identify and correct basic paint defects. The Painter II is expected to work with minimal supervision and may assist in training entry-level painters. Responsibilities Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.
- Independently perform surface preparation, masking, sanding, and cleaning of parts.
- Set up, adjust, and operate spray guns and related painting equipment correctly.
- Mix paints, primers, and coatings to specifications without supervision.
- Select appropriate paint types (epoxy, urethane, powder, primers) based on job requirements.
- Inspect coated surfaces and identify common defects such as runs, sags, and orange peel.
- Maintain paint booths, spray guns, and related equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Follow production schedules and meet required quality and efficiency targets.
- Assist with training Level I painters as needed.
- Safely use solvents, chemicals, and materials according to SDS guidelines.
- Perform all work in accordance with safety policies and quality standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read blueprints, travelers, and work orders.
- Possesses knowledge of industrial paint types (including epoxy, urethane, powder coat, and primers), proper surface‑preparation methods, and the identification and correction of basic paint defects.
- Ability to properly mix, measure, and apply coatings per specification.
- Strong understanding of safety practices and proper PPE use.
- Basic computer literacy for completing work orders or documentation.
- Skill Development: Continues to grow technical painting skills while applying existing knowledge independently.
- Quality & Accuracy: Produces consistent, high‑quality work with attention to detail and minimal rework.
- Safety Awareness: Follows all safety procedures and PPE requirements and promotes safe practices in the work area.
- Independent Work: Completes assigned tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining efficiency.
- Team Support: Works cooperatively with others and provides basic guidance to Level I painters when needed.
- Professional Conduct: Demonstrates reliability, accountability, and a positive attitude in daily work.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1-3 years industrial or manufacturing painting experience.
- Respirator fit test.
- Hazardous materials / OSHA training.
- Powder coating certification (if applicable).
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Able to lift 65 lbs. from floor to shoulder level occasionally.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the position, location, and/or customer.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while performing painting, preparation, and finishing tasks.
- Ability to frequently exert the pound force limits for push/pull 50lb f (no wheels) or 100lb f (wheels).
- Requires crawling and working in narrow spaces.
- Requires frequent repetitive movements, i.e. hammering, turning wrenches, screwdrivers and impact tools.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to work with fingers.
- Normal vision with or without corrective lenses.
- Will be required to work at a minimum height of four feet off of the ground.
- Ability to operate overhead cranes, mobile equipment and motor vehicles as required.
- Exposed to cold, heat, noise mechanical/electrical fume or odor.
- Will be required on occasion to work more than 8 hours on one shift.
- Requires crawling and working in narrow spaces.
