Students develop technological, cultural, and social knowledge to succeed in college and careers and inspire the community through citizenship, leadership, and lifelong learning. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Moderate Disabilities 5‑12 with SEI Endorsement is required. Additional content area license is encouraged. Training and Experience At least a Bachelor’s Degree in the major area of study; Master’s degree preferred. Bilingual preferred – community languages include English, Spanish, Arabic, and French. Skills and Ability Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form; Use evidence‑based research practices and data to guide student achievement effectively; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community; Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously; Perform duties with awareness of district, state, federal laws, and school policies; Provide equitable and inclusive support to students of diverse backgrounds; Maintain confidential records appropriately; Respond professionally to unpredictable situations such as environmental changes, behavior or aggression, seizure activity, etc.; Operate and acquire skills with computers and instructional technology and facilitate student use of technology; Exhibit collaborative, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills to support student programming and teamwork; Demonstrate strong organizational skills for a high‑demand position; Possess knowledge of specialized content areas and related laws and procedures; Plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and student needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities; Create a safe and conducive learning environment appropriate for student maturity and interests; Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, setting clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; Employ best instructional methods (e.g., Universal Design for Learning) and materials to meet objectives; Work with students identified by the evaluation team as having special needs; Develop and implement individualized educational plans for students approved for special needs services in coordination with the evaluation team; Provide diagnostic testing for referred students; Submit written forms, time logs, data, and reports required by the State Education Agency (SEA); Participate in all special‑education staff meetings, in‑service training, and school programs; Communicate regularly with colleagues, students, and parents; Adhere to policies governing student conduct and develop classroom behavior rules; Maintain classroom order; Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides or volunteers; Attend staff meetings and serve on school committees; Participate in staff development programs. Reports To Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator. Performance evaluated per Methuen Education Association (Unit A) Contract.
