We are seeking a motivated Structural Design Engineer with at least four years of professional experience to join a growing, highly collaborative engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the structural design and analysis of a wide variety of projects and support efforts from early concept through construction administration. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, gain exposure to diverse project types, and benefit from mentorship by experienced structural engineers. • Perform structural design and analysis for a broad range of projects, including commercial buildings, educational facilities, mixed-use developments, transportation structures, industrial facilities, seismic retrofits, and specialty structures.
• Develop structural calculations, models, and design documents for steel, concrete, timber/wood, and masonry structures in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
• Prepare, review, and coordinate structural drawings and details using Revit and AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and alignment with project requirements.
• Apply structural engineering principles to evaluate loads, perform stress analysis, and design structural systems that are safe, efficient, and economical.
• Collaborate closely with architects, civil engineers, and other disciplines throughout all project phases, from concept design through construction administration.
• Participate in construction administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and addressing field issues related to structural design.
• Ensure designs comply with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and other applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Contribute to the design of a wide variety of project types, ranging from retaining walls to new-build multifamily projects, in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Engage in weekly learning lunches and internal knowledge-sharing sessions to solve engineering problems and support ongoing professional development.
• Communicate clearly in written reports and verbal discussions with internal teams, clients, and other project stakeholders.
• Support and mentor less experienced engineers and team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices as appropriate.
• Participate in a collaborative team culture that values continuous improvement, feedback, and opportunities for long-term partnership.

• Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience.
• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Actively working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or recently licensed as a PE.
• Experience designing structures utilizing steel, concrete, timber/wood, and masonry.
• Proficiency in structural design and structural analysis, including preparation of structural calculations and stress analysis.
• Ability to apply and interpret IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and other relevant design standards.
• Experience with Revit for structural modeling and documentation.
• Experience with AutoCAD for structural drawings and coordination.
• Strong written communication skills for reports, documentation, and correspondence.
• Strong verbal communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
• Demonstrated structural engineering design experience in commercial, industrial, residential, or similar building projects.

• Experience working in a high-volume project environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with structural steel design, concrete design, wood structure design, and masonry design in a consulting environment.
• Experience with seismic retrofits and specialty structures.
• Interest in long-term career growth, including the potential for partnership opportunities.
• Enthusiasm for ongoing learning, participation in learning lunches, and engagement in continuous professional development.
• Comfort working with teams licensed across multiple states and supporting projects throughout the United States.

You will join a well-established structural engineering team that has served the Portland area for over 40 years and is licensed in 45 states. The team includes approximately 26 engineers, six of whom are partners, and completes 1,5002,000 projects per year, ranging from retaining walls to new-build multifamily developments. The work environment is fast-paced and project types are highly diverse, spanning commercial, industrial, residential, educational, mixed-use, transportation, seismic retrofit, and specialty structures across the United States. The office is located near Washington Square Mall in a modern, comfortable setting. The culture emphasizes collaboration, a love of learning, and open knowledge sharing. Weekly learning lunches bring the team together to solve engineering problems and mentor less experienced staff, while regular team outings and quarterly employee events foster a strong sense of community. Hybrid work options are available: engineers with at least two years of experience may work from home one day per week, and licensed PEs may work from home two days per week, with employees selecting their regular remote days. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR.

The pay range for this position is $85.00 - $100000.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
