Electrophysiology Technician 1 or 2 (CVT) - EPS Lab

Overview The Electrophysiology Lab is a specialized invasive procedure suite where cardiac electrophysiology procedures are performed on patients from neonate through geriatrics. The Electrophysiology Technician is an integral part of the EP team and is responsible for operating the technical equipment used during complex EP procedures. A strong knowledge base that includes experience in an Electrophysiology Lab setting, operation of Mac Lab/Cardio Lab, endocardial mapping equipment including Biosense Webster and Carto, as well as experience with assisting the physician in the scrub role for pacemaker and ICD implant procedures is required. The EP tech is required to work in the EP Procedural areas as well as in the OR and Hybrid Suite to assist with CVT duties outlined in this position description. Technical duties include pre/post procedure preparation including patient transport as required, operation of EP monitors and computers, maintains inventory control and supply management/usage, and assists in maintaining a safe work environment. Minimum Qualifications – Electrophysiology Technician 1 American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 3 months of hire High school diploma, general education diploma (GED), or equivalent experience/training 1 year experience as a CVT tech – will consider coursework in lieu of work experience Ability to perform all roles of the EP Scrub Tech. Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and electrophysiology. Working knowledge of EP systems equipment Knowledge and recognition of pressure waveforms and ECG analysis. Knowledge of laboratory supplies. Ability to provide pre‑ and post‑EP teaching explanations of procedures and emotional support to patients and families. Minimum Qualifications – Electrophysiology Technician 2 Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) 3 years recent EP tech with Electrophysiology Stimulator experience 3 years experience in invasive cardiology (EP) labs Experience with assisting the physician in the scrub role for pacemaker and ICD implant procedures Knowledge of PACS, EPIC, MAC Lab and inventory management system Strong knowledge of EP systems equipment Ability to teach safety practices and equipment operational practices Ability to provide orientation and instruction to new EP lab staff and teaching to cardiology fellows, nursing students and visitors Key Responsibilities – Electrophysiology Technician 1 40% – Assist with performance of all EP invasive and interventional procedures (EPS, ablation, PM, ICD, lead extraction, loop recorder etc.) 40% – Knowledge of x‑ray/digital equipment 10% – Maintain the quality and safety of the work environment 10% – Provide pre‑ and post‑op care Key Responsibilities – Electrophysiology Technician 2 40% – Assist with performance of all EP invasive and interventional procedures (EPS, ablation, PM, ICD, lead extraction, loop recorder etc.) for the Adult and pediatric population. 40% – Assist with performance of all EP invasive and interventional procedures (EPS, ablation, PM, ICD, lead extraction, loop recorder etc.) for the Adult and pediatric population. 10% – Maintain the quality and safety of the work environment 10% – Provide pre‑ and post‑op care Department Overview The Electrophysiology (EP) Laboratory is a specialized unit focused on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias through advanced electrophysiological procedures. The department includes two dedicated EP labs, each equipped with state‑of‑the‑art mapping systems, fluoroscopy, and ablation technologies to support both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Our expert team provides care to a broad patient population, from neonates to geriatric patients, ensuring individualized and age‑appropriate management of complex rhythm disorders. Procedures performed in the EP lab include diagnostic EP studies, catheter ablations, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter‑defibrillator (ICD) insertions, lead extractions, and device troubleshooting.
