Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.The Facilities team is seeking a PT/On-Call Custodian to work in the Facilities Department. The PT/On-Call Custodian will provide a clean environment for BAM staff, artists, patrons, and other guests by collaborating and consulting with others on the custodial staff, Custodial Supervisor and Facilities Manager.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESHeavy and light cleaning and high dusting of offices, movie theaters, public spaces, restrooms, sidewalks and building exteriorsSnow removal and operation of snow blowersMove heavy objectsOperate floor maintenance equipment such as buffers, shampooers, burnishers, etc.Receives and responds to all service request calls during the shiftProcess electronic work orders and other documentation as assignedAttend job-related skills and safety training as scheduled by the AcademyPreservation and safekeeping of all custodial materials and equipmentHigh school diploma or GED equivalentMust be willing to work overtime, as requiredMust be willing and able to work all shiftsTwo years of custodial experience with floor maintenance equipmentAble to do excessive walking, lifting, stair and ladder climbingAble to exert up to 50 pounds of forceDemonstrated ability to operate all equipment currently in useAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, and operating and maintenance proceduresAppropriate written and verbal communication skillsBasic computer skills (email, internet, etc.)Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environmentAbility to calmly interact with patrons/employeesWillingness to handle shifting task prioritiesCompensation: $18/hour - nonexempt, Eligible for Sick and Safe Time. 15-30 hours per week.
