Research Fellow
$110k - $120kEvery Cure
About Every Cure:
Every Cure is an AI-driven nonprofit, biotech organization on a mission to save and improve lives by repurposing existing medicines for diseases with significant unmet need. We are working to create a world where every drug is used to treat every disease it possibly can, so that no patient suffers when an existing treatment could help them. Rather than starting with a single disease or drug, we take an “all-vs-all" approach, systematically looking across every FDA-approved drug and every known disease to surface repurposing opportunities most likely to help patients. We are also the first organization to take end-to-end ownership of that process: from identifying promising repurposing opportunities, to validating it in the lab and/or clinic, to working with physicians, payers, and patient advocacy groups to get it to the patients who need it. We are filling a gap left by the current biomedical system, which doesn’t systematically pursue new uses for old drugs. Every Cure pairs AI-driven prediction with rigorous review from our medical team, plus close collaboration with healthcare professionals and patient advocacy groups, to unlock the full potential of existing medicines to treat every disease and every patient we possibly can.
Inspired by Every Cure’s co-founders' work repurposing drugs for Castleman disease and other rare diseases, Every Cure is advancing repurposed treatments for neglected diseases and has been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, USA Today, Good Morning America, Nature, and other news media. Led by a talented leadership team and an outstanding Board of Directors, Every Cure is supported through funding from leading philanthropic organizations like Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, TED’s Audacious Project, as well as the federal agency ARPA-H.
Our approach:
- AI-Powered Identification: We use advanced artificial intelligence to analyze the world’s biomedical knowledge and identify FDA-approved drugs that can be repurposed for conditions with unmet needs. This cutting-edge technology enables us to explore new therapeutic possibilities efficiently.
- Open-Source Commitment: Many of our methods' code, quality-checking tools, and knowledge graph pipeline are open-source, and our drug list, disease list, and knowledge graph-based drug-disease scores are freely available. We aim to foster collaboration and transparency within the scientific community and unlock the potential for discovering new treatments.
- High-Impact Focus: We prioritize drug repurposing opportunities that will relieve the most suffering and have the greatest impact possible.
- Rigorous Validation: Promising opportunities are thoroughly validated through laboratory and clinical studies to confirm their efficacy and safety before advancing to broader application.
- Strategic Marketing and Access: We disseminate information about effective repurposed treatments through multiple channels and are committed to ensuring that new cures are accessible to all patients.
Every Cure is seeking a mission-driven Research Fellow to evaluate, nominate, and advance high-potential drug repurposing opportunities.
This role is designed for a scientific generalist: someone with strong scientific expertise who is intellectually curious, adaptable, and energized by moving across disease areas rather than remaining within a single specialty. The Research Fellow will critically evaluate scientific evidence, identify knowledge gaps, and determine what needs to happen next to advance promising opportunities.
This person will also play a more execution-focused role within the research team, helping move opportunities from evaluation into action through laboratory studies, real-world evidence research, clinical research, and external partnerships. The ideal candidate brings strong scientific judgment, industry experience, and practical experience working with CROs or other third-party research organizations.
While the role is intentionally broad, expertise that adds to the team’s existing capabilities - particularly in immunology, aging, computational biology, or biostatistics - will be highly valued.
How you will make an impact:
- Evaluate Drug Repurposing Opportunities: Conduct rigorous reviews of potential drug repurposing candidates to assess therapeutic likelihood, feasibility, evidence quality, and potential patient impact, while identifying key knowledge gaps.
- Develop and Execute Advancement Plans: Design and help execute research plans that may include laboratory experiments, real-world evidence studies, and clinical research to determine whether an opportunity should advance.
- Drive Evidence-Based Decisions: Synthesize complex and sometimes conflicting evidence, identify limitations and potential biases, and develop clear recommendations on whether and how an opportunity should move forward.
- Lead External Research Collaborations: Plan and execute research through CROs, external laboratories, academic institutions, and other third-party organizations, including defining research needs and coordinating sponsored research.
- Collaborate Across Disciplines: Engage with disease experts, researchers, internal teams, and external partners to bring diverse perspectives into the evaluation and advancement of drug repurposing opportunities.
- Contribute to Every Cure’s Research Platform: Partner with the Tech team and use emerging technologies, including AI-enabled research tools, to improve how Every Cure identifies, evaluates, and advances opportunities.
- Support Team and Organizational Goals: Contribute new scientific perspectives and practical research capabilities to a growing team, collaborate with the Scientific Advisory Committee on key decisions, and support junior team members as appropriate.
- Disseminate Scientific Findings: Support peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, grant proposals, and other efforts to share Every Cure’s research with the broader scientific and patient communities.
What you bring to the team:
Education
- Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in biomedical sciences or a related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant academic and/or professional experience.
Experience
- Strong foundation in human biology and/or pharmacology.
- Industry experience and an understanding of how scientific research moves from evaluation toward execution.
- Experience critically evaluating laboratory studies, real-world evidence, clinical research, and other forms of scientific evidence.
- Demonstrated experience planning or executing research through CROs, external laboratories, academic collaborators, or other third-party research organizations.
- Experience collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work across disease areas and quickly develop fluency outside your core scientific specialty.
Skills
- Strong scientific judgment and the ability to rigorously analyze and synthesize complex evidence.
- Ability to identify knowledge gaps, biases, limitations, and conflicting findings.
- Ability to translate scientific evidence into clear recommendations and next steps.
- Experience designing and/or interpreting laboratory or real-world evidence studies.
- Comfort using AI-enabled research technologies and emerging scientific tools, or a demonstrated willingness to learn and adopt them.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to non-scientific audiences.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable changing course as new evidence emerges.
What will help you stand out
- Expertise in immunology or aging.
- Computational biology and/or biostatistics experience.
- Clinical research or clinical trial experience.
- Real-world evidence experience.
- Experience working in a biotech, pharmaceutical, startup, or similarly fast-moving research environment.
- Sponsored research experience with academic or commercial organizations.
- Direct drug repurposing experience.
- Experience using AI-enabled technologies in scientific research.
How you work
- Intellectually curious and energized by learning across scientific disciplines.
- Scientifically skeptical while maintaining rational optimism about what may be possible.
- Humble, collaborative, and comfortable having your assumptions challenged.
- Mission-driven and motivated by the potential to improve outcomes for patients.
- Low ego and focused on team success over individual credit.
- Able to work effectively in a small, evolving organization where priorities may shift quickly.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Your paycheck: Competitive salary based on experience, ranging from $110,000 - $120,000 annually.
- Health and wellness: Comprehensive plans with medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for eligible healthcare expenses.
- Future nest egg: A 403(b)-retirement plan with an employer match of 3.5% helps you save for your future.
- Relax and recharge: Generous time off, including paid time off, paid holidays, and Winter Break.
- We have you covered: Comprehensive paid leave for family and medical needs, ensuring you have the support you need during important times.
This role is based in Cambridge, MA, with an expectation of a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.
