Position Type: Full-time, Commission-Only, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Branch Manager or Tow Manager
- Perform safe towing, winching, recovery, and load‑shift operations on light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles.
- Secure vehicles and cargo using proper rigging, chains, straps, dollies, and other equipment.
- Control scenes safely by setting up cones, lighting, and hazard zones and coordinating with law enforcement, DOT, and other responders.
- Follow company standards for rigging, driveline and axle removal, securement, height/weight limits, wheel torque, and damage prevention.
- Operate within company service level expectations for response times, ETAs, and job completion.
- Safety, Compliance & Equipment Care
- Complete required pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections on assigned equipment and document findings accurately.
- Maintain wrecker, rigging, chains, straps, dollies, and PPE in safe, serviceable condition.
- Follow DOT/FMCSA Hours‑of‑Service regulations and all company HOS, driving, and safety policies.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, damage, and safety concerns to management.
- Comply with all company fuel, pre‑trip, and vehicle use policies.
- Dispatch, Documentation & Collections
- Respond promptly to dispatch calls, confirm ETAs, and keep dispatch updated on job status.
- Use company systems and mobile applications to document jobs, including statuses, locations, job notes, photos, and signatures.
- Capture required photos and written documentation of scenes, units, and equipment to support billing and reduce disputes.
- Obtain required signatures, approvals, and disclaimers from customers and drivers.
- Collect payment at the scene when required and ensure payment and paperwork are completed before release of units, in line with company policy.
- Follow company protocols for equitable dispatch, on‑call readiness, and idle‑time management.
- Customer Service & Professionalism
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, dispatchers, law enforcement, and other responders.
- Explain basic pricing, destination, and next steps to customers in a calm and respectful manner, even in high‑stress situations.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that reflects company standards.
- Help build and maintain the company’s reputation by providing a high‑quality customer experience in difficult circumstances.
- Qualifications Required
- Valid CDL (Class A ) with any required endorsements.
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company safety standards.
- Prior experience in towing, heavy recovery, roadside assistance, or commercial driving strongly preferred.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and participate in an on‑call rotation.
- Ability to operate heavy‑duty towing and recovery equipment safely in all weather and road conditions.
- Strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and commitment to following safety procedures and company policies.
- Ability to use smartphones, tablets, and mobile apps for navigation, dispatch, and job documentation.
- Preferred
- Experience in heavy‑duty towing and recovery (class 7–8 trucks, buses, equipment).
- Prior experience working with law enforcement, DOT, and other agencies at scenes.
- Towing, recovery, or roadside certifications (or willingness to complete company‑provided training).
- Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequent driving and operation of heavy wreckers and related equipment.
- Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing on and off trucks and equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, or maneuver equipment, chains, and rigging that may weigh 75 pounds or more, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work on or near active roadways, in traffic, and around moving vehicles and equipment.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind) and at all times of day and night.
- Use of required personal protective equipment, such as high‑visibility apparel, eye protection, gloves, and safety footwear.

- 100% commission‑based compensation on eligible billed and collected labor revenue, under the company’s written commission plan.
- Commission eligibility, non‑commissionable items, training pay, internal “policy” tows, cash‑out options, and chargeback rules are defined in the plan and offer letter.
- The company ensures that total pay for all hours worked meets or exceeds applicable minimum wage, consistent with federal, state, and local law.
- Hourly training pay during the initial training period, followed by transition to commission‑only.
- Eligibility for benefits such as health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off, subject to plan terms and waiting periods (if applicable).
- Pay Transparency (Multi‑State):
Actual earnings vary based on location, call volume, and individual performance. - A motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets company and insurance requirements for commercial drivers.
