Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule: M-F 8 to 5

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

• Decontaminate work areas and update patient information.

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.

• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

• Understand and follow physicians' orders precisely.

• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.

• Follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

• Attend annual department trainings.

• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states).

• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• High School Diploma or GED.

• 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in troubleshooting and providing workflow recommendations.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

The work environment is a fast-paced lab or hospital setting where the employee will use both straight and butterfly needles. The role requires adherence to safety regulations and attendance at annual training sessions.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
