Saint John's High School, located in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, is a Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for boys in grades 7‑12. Enrollment for the 2024‑2025 academic year is 900 students, representing more than 70 cities/towns within Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Known for its commitment to forming well‑rounded young men, Saint John’s offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum alongside a strong emphasis on spiritual and moral development, inspired by the values of humility, trust, simplicity, compassion, and zeal. The school provides a transformative experience by nurturing students' spiritual, intellectual, physical, and creative growth. Saint John's has a vibrant campus life that includes 17 athletic teams, over 50 extracurricular activities, and numerous opportunities for community service, encouraging students to embrace their faith while preparing them for success in competitive colleges and universities. A hallmark of Saint John's is its deep‑rooted sense of community and commitment to diversity. The school represents 35% students of color and approximately 40% of the student body receives financial assistance. The school’s modern facilities, including a state‑of‑the‑art performing arts center and a robust engineering program, ensure that students have the resources to explore their passions and realize their full potential.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with the Principal, the Assistant Principal for Student Life, Grades 9‑12 is responsible for ensuring that the overall climate and culture promote exceptional teaching and sustained student learning. Collaborating with the Principal and other administrators to oversee all aspects of student life, especially school order and discipline. Promoting the mission of Saint John’s and finding opportunities to recognize the positive contributions of students among the school community. Setting clear expectations for student conduct and clearly articulating these expectations and the associated consequences to the student body throughout the school year. Maintaining a detailed knowledge of the student life policies as articulated in the Student and Family Handbook; collaborating with the other assistant principals and faculty to ensure all students understand the policies and procedures of the handbook. Creating and maintaining an up‑to‑date listing of all student infractions within the Saint John’s portal student information system. Employing a system of detention, suspension, probation, and expulsion to ensure the good order of the student body; when appropriate, collaborating with school counselors, campus ministers, fellow administrators, faculty, and parents/guardians to develop appropriate guidance/support for struggling students. Working closely with students and their families, especially when resolving issues of a disciplinary nature; empowering faculty and students in the resolution of behavioral issues. Maintaining accurate attendance records for the student population and reporting attendance concerns to the Principal; approving all student requests for dismissal, tardy, and absence to ensure high levels of school‑wide attendance every day. Working closely with the School Nurse to properly document student dismissal from the nurse’s office. Leading and overseeing a comprehensive extracurricular program that provides all students with access to a wide variety of clubs, activities, and intramurals; collaborating with extracurricular moderators to ensure that each offering appropriately provides opportunities for both student and community development. Annually developing a publishable catalogue of all extracurricular clubs and activities for community dissemination, including a description of each club/activity, meeting dates and times, and club/activity moderators; the catalogue of clubs and activities will be made available at the start of each academic year. Managing the entire school’s transportation system, including the maintenance of detailed records for contracted busing, parking permits, and transportation services. Coordinating with the Director of Summer Programs and Summer Accelerators to ensure the smooth running of those programs. Assisting the Director of Admissions in fully informing prospective students of all transportation options. Routinely checking and monitoring school‑wide parking lots to ensure that community members are in compliance with all parking lot regulations; working closely with the parking crew during all special events, including select athletic events. Representing the administration at all school‑sponsored events and clubs, including formals, dances, MIAA‑sanctioned tournaments and competitions, student council, etc. Supervising and assigning faculty prefecting assignments, including cafeteria, dance, and school events. Collaborating with the Principal to maintain a school‑wide emergency response program. Maintaining processes to ensure the good order of the school, including a sound policy for managing the distribution and maintenance of student lockers, facilitating a lost and found, and managing the creation and distribution of student ID cards. Serving as a member of the Faculty Advisory Council. Participating in the faculty observation, supervision, and evaluation processes as directed by the Principal. Assisting in the hiring process, as directed by the Principal. Contributing to the overall collaborative approach of the administrative team by fully supporting and assisting fellow administrators as needed and directed by the Principal. Supervising the Office for Student Life, which includes a Dean of Students and an Administrative Assistant for Student Life. Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Principal.QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in the field of education preferred.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
