Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

This position involves working with patients in the Labor and Delivery unit. Registered Nurses are required to pass a skills exam during orientation. The exam is open book, and all necessary resources will be provided. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass, or termination of contract may occur. Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments. Refusal to remove artificial nails may lead to termination. The unit typically sees patients experiencing antepartum, triage, labor, postpartum, and newborn care. Common infusions include Pitocin, Insulin, fluids, and antibiotics. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with a total of 4 beds in the unit. The unit experiences approximately 100-125 births per year. There is a charge nurse on each shift, though the charge nurse does not take an assignment. Floating is not required but may be helpful if the nurse can assist in other areas. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting is done using an electronic system.
